I'm delighted you shared your discovery.

I'm still playing with mine, perhaps another ink, perhaps a different cartridge. Who knows.

I'm sure many others will be giving your hack a go. Thank you :)

Today I am using three large pens, a Lamy 2000, a Jinhao X450, and a Pelikan M805, all with medium nibs and great writers....

Struggling with finding the right ink for my new Optima. All inks seem faded and washed out in this pen.

So far I´ve tried (and rejected) the following:

Diamine Denim & Blue Black, Sailor Souten & Blue Black, R&K Salix.

Visconti Blue was okay, but lacked the magic I was looking for. For now, I´ve ended up with Kon Peki, but I´m not sure that´s the one either.

This pen is either going for a tune-up or in classifieds. I´m not impressed with the nib so far...

People are not joking when they say Auroras have feedback.

May I suggest a really bright red? OR Aurora blue?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Naaaah - I really bought this one solely for a medium blue or a Blue Black. (Isn´t Aurora blue very similar to Visconti blue?)

It really annoys me that it is so dry. I tried the same inks in the TWSBI (M) and the Scriptorium (M), and both pens give a much more saturated line.

But thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Gutted for you :(

Every time I handle an Aurora (Optima or 88) I have to use all ALL my willpower to not get the credit card out.

I dread to think the state I'd be in if I'd actually bought one and it was misbehaving.

Sounds like a job for someone who knows their nibs.

Best of luck. Please keep us posted. :)

How wet is the brilliant brown? I have the black 4001, and it's so dry I usually use it for trying out new pens, or pens with a really wet feed.

I usually use the 4001 BB in my Tortoise Pelikans and it is wonderful in them. But most of my Pels tend to be a little wet, so my feeling is that the BB will perform similar to your black. I haven't used it in other pens.

@mehandiratta - if you want to swap your Ranga blue swirl for a Bexley Prometheus with a broad nib, let me know. :)

Was cleaning up and organizing, and got to my pens, and decided since I'm packing for a short trip and had all my camera stuff out I'd do a little shoot. I decided to use all my black and gold pens. Unfortunately, I left my camera on high ISO and with all the noise filters off (had been doing spectral imaging with it hooked up to a scope and forgot to change all the settings) so it's a bit grainy. Also, the Sailor nib looks real gross because I was cleaning the nib and apparently left some water on it in a very ugly swipe pattern, so forgive my ugly nib :)

My venerable and beaten-up Kaweco Sport that I've sent through the wash not once, not twice, but three times. It's also been ejected from a moving vehicle (it flew out of my hand after a crazy pothole in a parking lot, but luckily hit grass):

My more recent (and apparently poorly cleaned) acquisition, a Sailor Young Profit which I got to give Sailor a try and have something that looked good but was cheap to take when traveling for work or situations where certain opposing counsel/clients/co-counsel are the type that don't want to see you with a MB because it looks kinda douchey to them:
