Ian I'm not sure about that phrase involving celery and the moon, but your writing sure is lovely with each of those "auld" pens.

I spent yesterday on "Jane duty", watching my four month old granddaughter whilst her parents were at work. My wife and I raised three sons so having a little girl in the family is a delightful change of pace. We took a lunchtime walk to a local eatery, where Jane preferred a booth.

When we got home Jane wanted to see what pens I had so I showed her the Oldwin Art Deco in my pocket.

Jane especially liked the concentric rings on the cap and the iridescent blue of the pen. The Oldwin gets high marks.

She soon spied the iconic snowcap of a Montblanc and insisted on inspecting that one, too.

I got it back after a short tussle.

Jane wants everyone to know that no, she wasn't clutching, and everything is better now.

These pens sure write nicely, and boy, do I love the Robert Oster Blue Sea ink!

Montblanc Midnight Blue isn't bad, either.

Personally, I'm hoping my kid doesn't take a liking to my pens. Who knows what they will sneak out as toys when you aren't looking lol.

Line variation is so nice, and our Pilots make it so easy to flex some. :)

Samples arrived just now! Dipped only, but I'm getting a good sense of the colors! Loving the variation of browns. Thanks, all, for introducing me to new inks!

Edit: in all fairness, the flow of the J.Herbin Café des Îles was not good because it was a very old sample that had become syrupy due to poor storage on my part. I am totally dedicated to J. Herbin inks, so I wanted to point that out that the flow issue was due to my upkeep, not the ink!

The best of the lot is Jane..

Hope she continues the legacy of fountain pens in the family

So what is the final opinion on these brown inks..

My ink wishlist - Aurora Optima with Diamine Denim.

The pen was extremely dry when got it Friday. The tines were almost welded together.

I´m still trying to figure out what ink will match this one,

I bought Sailor Souten to go with it, but that match is horrible,

What about the new Aurora Blue/Black? A very nice ink and I think it would not only match up well, but (obviously) be well-suited for the pen.

Thanks Jon

That may be the one I´m looking for. I´m a sucker for BB inks.

The next ink I´ll try will be Iroshizuku Tsuki Yo or R&K Sepia - just to go in a completely different direction.

A semil-flexing match between a Pilot Falcon vs a very old Swan Mabie-Todd hard rubber.

Falcon performs quite admirably here. Vintage Swan Mabie Todd is awesome.
