The ink is also amazing! Shading it does on this paper is super

Thank you. This nib is pretty wet and it was a bit disappointing how much feathering I got on my usual "cheaper" paper... but the sheen on the Tomoe River paper makes up for that.

New purchase, a post 1992 146 with OBB nib! I like these nibs. I have a Pelikan 400NN green stripe with OB nib and an early '60's Parker 75 with a Stub nib. Starting a Montblanc 146 collection of different size nibs, started with a pre '92 146, Medium nib.

My Fritz Schimpf special 146 Platinum with Italic nib arrived yesterday. Had to pay duty on it since it was shipped by DHL.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Glad it arrived safely. I feel your pain on the duty.

Looking forward to hearing what you think of this pen :)

That looks lovely, I am not a fan of some of the Limiteds from MB, too much like jewellery, but that pen is perfection.

That's very good news!

I'm glad that the OBB nib writes well for you.

I hope that your future 146s will be as satisfying.

~ Beechwood:

Several years ago in a Montblanc boutique I asked to see the most recent models.

The staff member asked me if I was more interested in the ‘jewelry pens’ or the ‘writing pens’.

Your comment brought that to mind.

I agree with you that BillH's Voltaire is perfection.

Understated elegance has a strong appeal.

Thank you Beechwood, I do agree and the pen grows on me every day. I usually don't re-ink the pens in rotation when they are empty but this one is going around again... great nib, great size.

I got my first 149 today! It's an early 70's vintage from comparing it to the charts here. Its a two tone 14C nib and has the one piece body and an ebonite feed. Time will tell if it will replace my two 146's for getting used the most. Going by line width it has a M nib. I would have liked to get a B/OB/OBB, but this one was available at a good price with box and papers. I am happy with a M nib, just like my OB a little better for showing off ink. If I grow to love the 149 size it gives me something to pick up later.

Enjoy your 149 Driften. NE careful, it is a slippery slope. :)

I am starting to see why people like the 149 so much, and like buying the first 146 I should have gotten a 149 sooner.

Congratulations! I think what you have there is a fine nib. It looks identical to my first 149, which I've had for 50 years, also a 14C. Does it have the split ebonite feed? You will get so much enjoyment from this pen!

It's not the split version that came later. From my testing it's a medium nib width and its softer then my 146's. It writes a line from 0.6mm-1.1mm.

Here is a pic of the feed.

Bought this beauty over the weekend from the bay, it would seem not many people were online at that time as I got it for a great price too. The broad nib was a lovely surprise also as I couldnt tell from the photos what I was getting. Needs a good clean and service, something I will do this weekend before Christmas.
