What's Your Most Recent Mb Purchase? 2017

Early 146s are great; long ink window, clip with long hump, hole in cap top, grooved ski slope feed?

Also there are slight differences to the imprints on the filler knob (large font).

Hope you will like it.

What's the nib size?

Cheers

Michael

When you say long hump on clip, how long? Does it extend through the entire clip? Based on pics my pen seems to have a hump like the typical 146 from the 70s or so.

Also, about hole in cap top, what kind of hole and where exactly?

Are these dating related indicators? Thanks!

No, the other way ;-)

The hump should extend into the cap top. And that‘s where the gap/whole is. Between clip and cap top so there is room for the hump.

I see, no mine isn't like that. The hump extends all the way to the cap top ring but there is no hole. But, I'll writ back with pics when I receive it in about 2 weeks.

A few more 149s enter the family. An early 1960s EF and a modern OB. I am a sucker for these pens!

2 pens today. My first OM nib. It's buttery smooth. Only recently realized I prefer obliques. NOS Traveller 147 OM. Matching LeGrand Rollerball. Never had this size rollerball either.

My only rollers are all StarWalkers. I like these two pens a lot. The refill in the rollerball is huge! Wonder if I can refill it myself by pulling the back cap off the refill like I do on my other roller refills 😳

I am not sure my collection of MB #9 nib pens qualifies as mini any longer. ;)

I am soliciting opions on the nib width of one of my nw 149s. Is it OB or OBB? The paper is color laser copy paper at 28 pound weight and the ink is MB Irish Green.

Here is a closer shot of the nib.

So what do you vote? I think OBB, almost for sure.

Here is a writing sample from my other 149 purchase. It is an early 1960s 149 with a tri-tone 14C and a full groove feed. It is one of the springer 149 nibs I have owned so I thought it was worth sharing with others who want to know what a vintage 149 nib is capable of in terns of variation. Please note I did not mash the nib like I have seen some people do to modern nibs. Please don't abuse your nibs! ;)

writing sample is on 28 LB color copy paper and with Waterman Blue Black ink. Looks like an F nib to me. goes to 3B or so without issue.

Im leaning OBB.

Arent those longer-tined nibs awesome?!

Thanks for the vote GP.

The skinny point nibs on flexible #9 nibs are fun, but I still prefer my 3B and O3B nibs for more than just playing about.

The 18K nib is about 1.5mm wide at the tipping, so I would agree it is an OBB. I would expect about half a millimeter wider or narrower for OBBB or OB respectively.

The 14C could, I think, even be an EF. It is remarkably flexible!

Zaddick- congratulations buddy! I too am leaning towards OBB for sure. Just did lines to compare with mine and I arrive to a similar conclusion :)

I say F and OM both feel like stick nibs, my eyes dont see the difference although I enjoy both.

Congratulations they look beautiful.

I would go OB or BB :) make the most of it.
