What's Your Most Recent Mb Purchase? 2017

Ghost Plane

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My next purchase will be the MB Heritage: Rouge et Noir Coral, I am undecided if I want it in OBB or EF, you see, I recently became a fan of broader nibs, I already have BB, OBB, OBBB, F on a Exupéry and 149's, so at first I thought I want the next to be different to have variety, that's why I thought of an EF (I also enjoy finer nibs), but I love my BB and OBB as well.

I think the Rouge et Noir, because of it's thin profile, would suit the EF nib very well, but then the idea of the contrast of a thinner pen and a broader nib seduces me.

Please let me know your thoughts, I know a nib size preference is absolutely subjective, but still, I would like to hear your advice as fellow pen enthusiasts.

Thanks,

Luis A.

Hey nice seeing you here!

I'd go with the OB nib... i'm in love with it (as seen on my latest ig post..).

They write beautifully, smooth, wet, and great line variation!

Hi Reed,

Nice to see you here as well!

Thanks for your opinion, I will consider the OB as well, is middle ground I think and I really like how yours write! (eventually I would like to own all nib grades!)

Cheers!

I have a fine nib on my Rouge et Noir Black, and I really like it. The nib doesn't have flex but is very bouncy, which makes the fine nib very enjoyable to use!

I see you are selling some of your pens...have you considered the Rouge et Noir? lol (I'd buy a second hand for sure).

Thanks for the reply, I hope I set my mind soon enough. Cheers.

Hi Luis,

I'm afraid not at the moment :( But if I ever do, I will list it in my signature here!

Either nib size choice - you will probably be very happy with that pen!

Thank you guys for your opinions, I placed my order today to the good friend Joost at Appelboom!: The Rouge et Noir Coral with a magnificent Oblique Broad nib, I can't wait to try it, I hope it won't take too long to arrive, I let you all know when it does with a writing sample!

Have a good day everyone!

I'm going to start off with an acknowledgement of, what I have felt to be, excellent care extended to me by Jerry at the Mont Blanc boutique in Lenox Square Mall in Atlanta. The whole staff there has been great, but I've delt mainly with Jerry. It's one of the first places where I wasn't rebuffed for not appearing like I could afford their products.

I recently was presented with an ultrablack 146 (details in other posts) Jerry helped with choosing that pen along with taking the time to watch me bounce around what nib I would finally choose.

Now, I like to gift myself things for, what I feel are milestones in my life, so for beginning my new career back to Mont Blanc I went. Now, while I could have delt with anyone, I was so impressed with the care in which Jerry had taken I decided I would like to deal with him.

Again, he went out of his way to pull multiple pens for me to decide between. The JFK, Mile Davis, Exupéry, UNICEF's, Rouge et Noir, and a few others. It was quickly narrowed down the the Davis or the Exupéry.

The Exupéry ended up being chosen. Maybe I'm making too much of a deal out of an experience, some may simply expect, for me it is the care of service that will bring me back to shop there rather than anywhere else.

Now to keep the M nib or not.

Tl;Dr excellent service by Jerry at the Lenox boutique in ATL, I added an Exupéry to my collection.

I was at the 2017 Dallas Pen Show and bought a used MB149, my second, and it writes beautifully. It has W Germany on the cap band and an 18 kt 2 tone nib. It's an early 90's most likely. It sure feels nice in the hand.

That sounds very nice, indeed.

Thank you for telling us.

What size is the nib?

It's good to know that it writes well.

Thank you for sharing an image of your truly beautiful pen.

It's especially nice to see the box with Carlo Collodi designs.

I hope that it will provide years of writing pleasure.

Pwsuba,

I am really happy for you, I also had experienced very pleasant visits to my nearest Montblanc Boutique and the service they gave me has been extraordinary; the fist time I showed up with a t-shirt and sneakers and the service was remarkable regardless of my "appearance".

I also chose the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry by the manager's recommendation, I loved it when he showed it to me; mine though, has a BB nib and is one if not the smoothest of them all!
