I did end up grabbing one of these. My first 149 and re-nibbed to an OBB. We'll tour the building next month when we travel north for the Hamburg pen show.

Okay. Now I'm officially jealous.

Welcome to Lola!

My 13-week old Pug, Zuji, has brightened my life.

That's a nice photo.

May Lola do likewise for you.

Just ink:

Assistant called it The Year of the Dog ink. But, there's nothing to state that on the box, or the bottle - unless that's what the Chinese characters are saying. You can see right through it, in the bottle. A very charming ink.

Typically overpriced.

Enjoy.

Adding a (right) wet vs 2 hour old dry (left) comparison.

Ink comparison — Legends of the Zodiac Year of the Dog 2018 vs William Shakespeare Velvet Red

~ CS388 and grantmm:

Thank you for your respective posts about the recently released Legends of the Zodiac Year of the Dog 2018 ink.

It sold out on the Montblanc China Web site on the day of release.

Presumably restocking here will be large-scale, given local sensibilities.

The information you've shared is useful for those considering a purchase.

As before, grantmm, many thanks for the handwritten post.

Your comparison between the Zodiac 2018 ink and William Shakespeare Velvet Red is especially helpful.

I rather liked Miles Davis Jazz Blue. As I enkoy watercolors, paler inks appeal to me.

For writing on student manuscripts, there may be a place for this ink.

I'm wondering what Montblanc's long-term marketing strategy is concerning the Lunar New Year Zodiac.

There are twelve animals. Will each year be a shade of red, which is so revered in China?

That will tax the creativity of the ink formulation team.

Again, many thanks.

I got in the mail today my first MB fountain pen. Its a 90's 146 in M nib from Zaddick. I have two ballpoint MB's but not a fountain pen. I am enjoying the pen! It looks much nicer in person then the pics. There is just something about black MB's that show off micro scratches in pictures that are hard to see normally.

Those are beautiful pens. Thank you for sharing the images with us.

Your 90s 146 looks superb. Coming from zaddick, it must be a quality pen.

Ha! Isn't it the truth? Micro-abrasions I never see show up in photos.

BTW: I'm a graduate of Bellevue High School.

I haven't been in the Puget Sound area for decades.

As a kid, one rainy afternoon my late dad took us to a small stream in Issaquah to watch salmon swimming upstream.

Enjoy that lovely pen!

Thanks Tom. I am actually a transplant from SoCal and have lived here in Washington since 1998 and never want to go back ;)

Watching the salmon can be cool and yearly there have a salmon days event in Issaquah around the hatchery.

I think the 146 is going to be a great pen for a long time to come. I expect it will be joined by one in Platinum at some point maybe that one in B or OB. For now it is putting my pen buying habits to a stop while I enjoy this one.

That's wisdom.

A great pen deserves to be used, appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed.

Not unlike life in and around Issaquah.
