The two Montblancs I own I bought second hand because they were affordable; not really but it is a little lie I tell myself. The first was a Writers' Edition Edgar Allan Poe because it is a beautiful stormy blue and who can resist a raven on the nib. The second is Writers Edition Fyodor Dostoyevky because he is one of my favorite writers and because it was cheap compared to the Hope Diamond.

I recently made a 'too good to be true', 'lucky isn't even that lucky' flea market buy of a vintage 149 and a vintage (I think) 221, these two paired with a rubber bladder 'Wearever' (?) all for the bank breaking price of $5. No paperwork, no boxes, in addition to price paid, I know, counterfeit. But the guy clearly didn't know what he had, he didn't even say Montblanc. And even if you know they're fake, you'd still push for more than $1.75 per, right? Anyway, I made a SOS post in the MB tread, asking for help to verify which side of the spectrum I'm on, I'm new to the network and not familiar with any of this, so I don't know if my post will be seen or not. I'm just looking for help. I realize pictures would make this process much easier, but again, ignorance, if anyone would like to single out the amateur noob even more, help with posting pictures would be the best way to go about that.

Right, my mistake - didn't pay enough attention to notice the ring / collar below the nib.

The 221 is a frankenpen (221 barrel with a 320 cap) but that alone is worth 10x the price paid.

My intro into vintage. Though advertised as green, this 144 is definitely a grey with some ambering when comparing it to other pics. I still love it and this will definitely feed into some future purchases of striated/tiger pens. Those 24X series are looking enticing.

It has OBL written on it and I can see the angle clearly on the nib. It writes quite well and its the first MB that I am getting some color variation on the ink when I write. I also think I know what flex finally means since I'm getting a responsive not seen in my other pens (MBs from 2012-present) and it seems much more lively.

 

P.S. - It's the ambering that is drawing my wife's attention - she prefers ambered specimens more mint ones ironically enough.
