And I bought it from LCdC today, a fantastic deal (did you get the deal too?).

I asked for an OBB too.

Of course! This pen wasn't actually on my to buy list but at the price offered I could not say no. It was a 'STEAL'!

Looking forward to my very first 'O' nib!

OBBs are worth waiting for.

Yup. I'm one of those who were heavily influenced by you and Tom.

I bought the same pen last night from LCDC!

I asked for an OBB nib, so there might be a long wait.

Great choice and great deal (I saw the price)! Hope that the whole process with Montblanc will be quickier than with Parker: I have bought a Parker Premier from LCDC, and I am waiting since more than three months (!) for the EF nib...

I sent my Ultra Black to MB for a NIB exchange. I went with EF and love it. The unfortunate thing is that the NIB exchange took nearly 3 months.

Thank you for the information, good to know! I always send my MBs directly to Masuyama, but soon or later I will try the nib exchange service.

I've had 3 Montblanc pens sent to Hamburg by LcDc on my behalf. None took more than 1 month- that was later in 2016. I hope things haven't changed! I would hate to have to wait 3 months!

Like I said in the other post, my philosophy is 'no pen is worth waiting for a long time' My definition of long time is 1 year :) I had to wait 1 year for 2 pens from Nakaya- part of the reason why I have not bought any more Nakayas since.

I agree, even if my definition of "long time" is much shorter :) - waiting for a basic nib exchange more than theee months seems an exaggeration to me. In the "Parker case" mentioned above, I asked for a EF nib, not a bespoke OBBBB with Chinese engraving on the nib.

I should add that "La Couronne du Compte" was able to find a satisfactory solution - thumbs up!

Just received the tracking number on mine. I stayed with the Medium nib on mine. I thought about the exchange but decided not for this pen. I think I prefer to look for an OB or OBB on a black and gold 146 or 149. Perhaps one day I'll find it in the classifieds here? Till then I'll "make do" with the O nibs on my Pelikans.

Indeed, a steal.

This one was in my list, but low priority. However, at that price one cannot resist.

Oh, you're lucky! They shipped both your Ultra Black and the Renaissance Brown!

I didn't hear a thing from them about either the Ultra Black or the Renaissance Brown. In fact, I'm still waiting to hear about a Boheme Moongarden and a Pelikan box I bought over thanksgiving :( .

Well, Tom Kellie's morning pictures had me visit my boutique earlier today and so this joined its other two siblings :)

Equipped with a B nib to give some line variation, but also not to be excessively large due to the small(ish) ink reservoir.

The color isn't too apparent in these pictures, but I think they show better in the pics I posted in the thread of the pen's model.

Oh my God, Pravda, it is the new tropic brown rouge et noir. Congrats. And what's about the price? Is it ranked like his "sisters": the coral and/or the regular black resin?

Thank you admmarcos! :)

I believe the black resin was AED 2,100 and coral AED 2,300 this was AED 2,700 so I would say they're in range of $100 increments.

I was all excited to talk about my new MB acquisition that I hinted at weeks ago, but my pen buddy 888007888 stole my thunder. Since he was able to get to the LA pen show last weekend, he picked up one of the prototype MB 149s with the MOP star. Even though I had been talking with Tom from Penboard.de since December about the pens and finally pulled the trigger after a holiday break in our negotiations, my pen was on its way but stuck in customs in NY. I was only able to enjoy 888007888’s pictures like everyone else, yet I could not help feeling a little wistful.

Well, today is the day it finally arrived. Being me and being picky about my 149 pens, I did not want the pens Tom had for sale. He had installed the MOP derbies onto circa 1998 149s with the period appropriate resin feed, brass threads and 2 piece barrel. I really like the early resin pens from the 1960s but he did not have any of those. He was able to find me a 1970s/early 1980s 149 with a bi-tone 14C nib in B width. It has the split ebonite feed, one-piece barrel and the plastic piston threads I prefer. The cap look to be a little later as the clip has a W. GERMANY stamp on it. I figured I have the opportunity to take “artistic license” since the MOP derbies were never released to the public nor intended for sale and therefore I was not “ruining” the pen it would have come on it is was a product ion item in 1998/1999.

As explained to me, there are about 10-15 of these MOP derbies that were made to test out the production process to make the MOP stars for the 75th LE 149. Now those derbies also have a metal ring around them so these prototypes are not simply early production. I had known of maybe 2 or three that had been floating around over the years but they had “disappeared” from discussions here on FPN. Recently Tom was able to secure the remaining derbies from a factory source and he is selling them off.

Is it worth it? Well, that is for you to decide. For me, the answer was yes. Given the rarity and the love I have for the 149 it was an acceptable cost. (It is still a lot cheaper than securing a 75th 149 LE in good condition, and there are far more of those floating about.) The “bling” is subtle but very hypnotic. I enjoy staring at it in the various lighting conditions around the office.

Here are a few pics of the pen, mainly featuring the MOP star.

Oh Wow!! Such a fantastic MOP 149 u got there Zaddick. Congrats on this acquisition. I have been eyeing for any one MOP MB but to no avail. You are a lucky guy having this elusive MOP 149.

Thanks for sharing the news & photos. Congrats on the addition. Will hop into the boutique here to see this latest edition.

UNICEF Notebook #146. A coniac colored leather business card case and Montblanc Legend cologne. I would include some photos but can't seem to figure out what is wrong with my phone. It won't allow me to attach photos.

I was actually only in the boutique to pick up a pen I had sent to Germany for servicing. The manager ended up gifting me the card case and cologne due to the length of time MB kept my pen for repair. I purchased the notebook on a whim as it looked nice. Hopefully the paper quality can hold up to fountain pen ink. If not, I'll dedicate it to ballpoint use only.

It's probably a good thing for my budget that these aren't larger pens. Lovely!

The serpent / jewel adorned LE from last year is larger than a 149 ;) albeit a bit garish, yet outstanding to hold in your hand
