Hah! I think I'm first this week! B)

fpn_1485808307__qotw_5.jpg

This is an attempt at half-uncial (which is a lot fussier than regular uncial). I borked the "u" in the author's name slightly, but left it, so you can see my mistake.... [shrug -- I rushed it a bit; and I was working from the .pdf of Harris that I downloaded last week, and was trying to scroll up and down the letter formation pages left-handedly while writing with my right hand...]. Also not quite getting the fine work on the final stroke of the "n"s. C'est la vie....

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

ETA: I also left in my x-height marks at the beginning, rather than having them on a ruled template underneath the page.

Sorry this one's late. It's the first time I have tried posting a photo from my iPhone to FPN.

I used a F-C Model 02 with a music nib and F-C Urushi Red ink for the Majuscule L and a Ranga with a fpnibs gold #6 JoWo BB ground to CI with Irosh. Syo-ro ink for the rest.

Pens: a simple handmade pen and a Sheaffer No Nonsense with Fine nib

The ink splotch is intentional for once. :)

Lovely work Vaibhav, richila, ksm and Dawn.

Dawn, I really like the style you used for the text. Did you come up with it yourself? It seems to have elements of the font 'Calligrapher' but is much livelier.

Salman, it is my "go to", non-italic, italic hand. It's based on an exemplar found in Calligraphy: The Art of Lettering with the Broad Pen by Byron J. Macdonald. I've always liked it and, over the years, have sort of made it my own. The book also includes a true italic version, but oddly enough, I never use it.

Well, it's a new week and I believe it's my turn to post a quote. I didn't actually expect to first in line for the new week quite so soon.... But I knew that if I had an opportunity, this would be what I would pick.

Not sure where I found it originally (possibly in another thread on FPN ) but I liked it and saved it.

Nice quote Ruth - this will be interesting to compose.

I did not get the time to do a fair copy of the quote for last week so am sharing the layout I was happy with from my exercises:

Pens: Pilot Parallel 3.8mm & Dollar with FPR Italic nib ground to a CI.

Inks: Black in Pilot, MB Collodi in the Dollar.

Paper: Made in Indonesia notebook from the Dollar store - it takes all inks beautifully and is very smooth.

I would like to show you, what difference paper makes. Both samples were done with same hand, pen and ink.

First I've tried on a page from calendar my employer issued last year.

fpn_1486568716__img_20170208_160746_smal

Then I used last years Rhodia WebPlanner.

fpn_1486568812__img_20170208_160601_smal

The difference is staggering.

Both written with Pelikan M400 IB nib, using KWZI IG Aztec Gold
