After writing this for practice, I realized that it's essentially the motto of this thread. Leonardt Principal ef

I seem to gravitate to this cursive italic style these days. Here are two in the same style:

So what is this week's quote?

Salman, your cursive italic is so beautifully rendered. Hard to believe the hand was invented 500 years ago.

Looks like the quote comes to me this week. The Paulo Coelho line will work --

When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too.

Amen to that! Every time you post something in this hand, what I will refer to as basic cursive italic I am reminded that this is what I want to be able to do. Likewise Ken Fraser's most recent post. I find all of the other examples beautiful and I love seeing them come in, but sometimes I become distracted from 'goal one' which for me is an attractive cursive italic hand for correspondence.

I have a long way to go but no shortage of inspiration, thank you all.

Thank you so much for the kind words Bob and Dr. Codfish.

Interestingly this cursive hand came about from my studies of the more formal Italic hand and seems to get more consistent as I practice the formal versions of this versatile hand :-)

This exemplifies the biology adage: "Ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny." Cursive italic did develop from the more formal humanist bookhand. And (relatively) modern proponents of italic handwriting taught that cursive italic would develop naturally from formal italic in the course of its use as everyday writing.

I like seeing how your own cursive italic has developed.

Best regards,

David

For some reason I can't see your links, Ken -- I got this error message saying to update account to enable 3rd party hosting.

I ran into the same message with some other peoples' posts in other threads, but in those cases I was still able to click on the link and be taken to Photobucket. :( Not quite sure why this is happening because it just started in the past day or so.

What style is this Ken? Is this a particular style or you have modified it?
