That's a magnificent shot! Some people aren't even that good with a shotgun that doesn't need lense focus or technical settings.

Aaron, are you showing us a 1960's 149?

Yes sir. It may be early 1970s as the feed has no groves and the piston is screw out. So after 1968 is my guess. It took a while to find a 3B stickered pen. I am excited to see it in person.

Hi Tom. "Marked" is probably a term I use a little loosely. As you know, MB does not mark their nibs anywhere with a size indication. Through the 1950s they used to heat stamp the nib width on the piston cone, but not on the nib itself. So the only time you know for sure the nib width on a modern MB (post 1950s) is when you buy it and there is a nib size indication on the box and/or a sticker on the barrel. Thr pen I bought has a period correct sticker on the barrel indicating BBB. That is what I meant by a marked pen in my earlier comments. Without that sticker I would be left to guess width or to try to get out calipers to measure tip width to confirm nib size. Even then, as MB nibs are hand finished I would not know if it was a fat BB or a BBB.

Since BBB has not been produced since the early to mid 1970s (based on thr research I have done), it gets harder to find one that is a true BBB from the factory. I just hope it is what is advertised and is a good writer. We have to try to keep up with you after all! ;)

Amazing find! The rare BBB in the wild ... my dream. It is simply gorgeous. Would you be willing to share how you found it?

No special trick or interesting story about a dusty bookstore is a small alpine village. I was just taking a break from work and checking eBay on my phone. I tend to look at most all the 149s as I like wide nibs and 149s. Once I saw this one I jumped on it without to much thinking. Once in a while I find something good on eBay.

Hi Tom. The listing did not say anything specifically in the title, but the photos clearly showed the sticker. The seller listed the nib width as BBB, but I tend to judge for myself based on photos. There are some folks who will list a pen as BB or BBB when it looks to me to be no more than a B at best. I think they do this to increase the value of the pen on the used market. Having that silly sticker (in conjunction with the nib width itself) makes all the difference to me. Knowing what it was when it left the factory also allows me to compare my other wide 1960s MB nibs to betterestimate their width.
