Hi Tom and friends,

I just have a split second to post this reply.

I used midnight blue. Encourage your students to try it.

I feel like at the end the charm of pens comes from the nib and its performance.

These nibs are stunning! I'm glad I own one...otherwise, it will be in my mind all day and night..

If you don't write regularly with a pen, what's the point of having it?

Following the example of Smaug the dragon, one could hoard a pile of precious fountain pens and occasionally fondle them wearing white gloves.

MB Joker? Given their cartoonish Beatles LEs, can Joker LEs be far behind? Although Montgrappa seems to have cartoons and TV serials covered these days.

The Joker LE might possibly be a Patron of the arts pen. Only Montblanc could pull this off with grace and style.

Hello,

How do you get hold of the OBBB nibs?

I inquired about a 149 in red gold with an OBBB nib at a local (Belgium) boutique, but according to them an OBB nib was as the broadest nib you could get with the nib exchange service. I checked and they are an official MB dealer, so I guess they know their way around MB.

So, is there anything special you need to ask for or a specific way to describe that nib?

Thanks or any help.

Your boutique salesperson is misinformed. The OBBB nibs are available for the 149. It is also known to some people as a "signature nib" although that is a misnomer.

The OBB nib is the widest nib available for the Meisterstück 146 not the 149.

As a last resort contact Montblanc in Hamburg or talk to the good people at appleboom. They are a knowledgeable authorized dealer in Belgium.

What meiers has very kindly explained is correct.

I have three 149 OBBB nib fountain pens, all of which were obtained through an official Montblanc boutique in Beijing.

All three OBBB nibs were regular nib exchanges ordered by the boutique staff through ordinary channels without any additional fees.

There is a sizable group of 149 OBBB users who regularly post in this thread and in the FPN Montblanc forum, all of whom obtained their 149 OBBB nib pens through nib exchanges.

I strongly recommend following meiers’ suggestions, as writing with an OBBB nib on fine paper is a delightful experience.

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention and posing this question. We want you to enjoy the pleasure of writing with a 149 OBBB nib.

Thank you to both meiers and Tom K. for your swift responses.

I will give the MB boutique another try and explain to them that this shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise I will definitely give Appelboom a try.

Even though I have several pens with OB nibs, this OBBB nib really must be something else

It is. And certain well-informed and connected consignment sellers can walk you through obtaining and pricing for used if you have a good base pen you want to keep and use for the price of a new nib.

Never assume the sales people "know" things.

They are used to selling ball points.

... and cufflinks, bags and perfumes.
