~ My father passed away at age 93 yesterday morning in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii.

As a child, he showed me his fountain pens, inked with dark blue ink.

He was a lifelong doodler with pens, scrawling lines, circles, and various squiggles in margins.

My own love of writing with fountain pens is a direct consequence of his love of pens, writing and drawing.

Tom K.

My strongest condolences to you, FPN Friend.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

Tom, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Every time you write, it will bring back wonderful memories.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Sincere consciences at this hard time for you and your family. I know how hard it can be to be a long distance from those you love when they are in the final twilight of a what I hope was otherwise a long and full life. I wish I was in a position to hand write this for you, as I think that would help in some tiny way.

Tom, your wonderful posts and pictures inspired me to get an O3B 149 for myself. It took a lot of selling to raise the funds, but it's on its way. I really missed seeing you around the forum, and I'm glad you're back.

"Oh deer."

As a newcomer to this forum, this thread has been absolutely fascinating, and the photos are jaw-dropping.

First, my condolences to Tom on your recent loss.

Second, I have so many questions about the O3B nibs, but foremost is the rationale for the oblique cut. It looks intriguing but what is its function? Is it to enhance the line variation, or something else? I would guess that a very broad nib would have far more intrinsic line variation by itself than a medium or fine nib, but I may be completely wrong here. I see that the only offering of a BBB nib is with the oblique cut, so maybe you're after the extra-wide nib?

My O3B red gold 149 just arrived today! Definitely love it! I'm also from EF to O3B, never regret the choice. Simply can't go back once you try the broad nibs...
