What Pen Are You Waiting For In The Mail 2017

From having nothing at all, finding out about fountainpens I am now waiting for two Wing Sung 698 (F and EF) and a TWSBI eco EF paired with the inks Diamine Red Dragon, Ancient Copper and Damson. I am both excited and terrified that I did choices I regret. I do fear this is a slippery slope and I'll soon be buying more pens or inks soon. I yet have to get anything to write on though.

I'm waiting for a Pilot Vanishing Point, matte blue, with stub nib. This will be my first VP. I bought it at Bertram's Inkwell today for a good price, but they didn't have it in stock. They'll order it and ship it to me, but it might take up to ten days.

So, now, rather than doing the practical thing and trying to forget about it, I'm reading through FPN to get even more obsessed with the pen. :-)

I gave up on bidding and simply bought a Pilot Custom 74 with a soft fine nib, a con-70 and bottle of Pilot Black - the one in the curvy 70ml bottle. (Is it just me? Taking exchange rate and shipping to Australia into account when bidding makes it almost impossible to win a pen in international auctions.)

Anyway, I already have a 30ml bottle of Pilot Black that I've hardly used, but wanted the bigger one because the shape of the bottle is so pretty. If I load up my wettest broadest pen from the 30ml and use it every day multiplied by the long wait for the post I can use lots and then truly require a second bottle as backup.

Will work for pens...

Parker 45 flighter. Had one through an aunt earlier this year. Sold it on eBay (for too little) regretted it. Been waiting for ages to snag one at a reasonable price (maybe my 'reasonable price' is not actually reasonable!?). Got one.

Jinhao x450 in blue marble (lightning?!) with a supposed 'flex nib'. These started appearing a couple of months ago on eBay. I'm fairly convinced it's some mistranslation, maybe even a deliberate one, to snag the niche market, and I have extreme doubts about what level of flex this will have! I had always wondered about Jinhao x450s though, as I have and enjoy a number of x750s. It had always appeared in brown marble, which I find possibly the least attractive x450 colour scheme, and as soon as I saw the blue marble I jumped at it.

Just an hour ago bought a Waterman's sumthing sumthing ring top, looks to be 20s/early 30s. Had 'ringtop' on my wish list (already have a Moore L72 but it doesn't have its ring, sadly), so that's a shorter wishlist!

Hi, I'm Mat

My mother is using the Hero/Yiren 359 and we both agree that it's a surprisingly wet and smooth writer for its price. Although the fine is more of a medium than I would like.

Thanks, ordered a all gray Pilot Kakuno, a Jinhao 992 and 500 while waiting. if the Pilot works out, may order a white one too. Looking at the OHTO Teschi and a Hero 616 now.

Ordered another Sheaffer Imperial II Deluxe with some birthday money I received (thanks mom!), and saved the rest for a soon (hopefully!) to be made pen that I have been thinking about for a few years now.

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

For no good reason I can recall, I just bought an Aurora 88 with gold cap because, well, cheap.

There were few and not very informative photos but the 100% record seller says it is fully operational and in wonderful condition and, did I mention cheap?

Yesterday I was pondering the need to sell a few vintage 88s to remove effective duplicates. This may be a repair job I can sell on or may prove to be the gold-cap 88 I keep.

Hero 359 arrived, not going to ink it up, did not like the grip so I am sure I will not be buying a Lamy Safari. Waiting for Jinhao 992, Jinhao 500, Baoer 388, Wing Sung 3003 and maybe will order a Wing Sung 3008 as well.

Extra Preppy and Petit 1 arrived too, love those pens.

Upon close inspection the Hero 359 is actually a Yiren 359 although ebay seller indicated as a Hero 359 but for a buck I am not complaining.

A set of cheap Jinhao’s just arrived: 8 between 599’s, 588’s, 992’s. My wife got one, my daughter grabbed 3 for her so my pen collection grew by 4.

Now the best indecision: which pen to fill with which ink?

I'm still waiting in the mail for this.

Sometimes, it's frustrating to support the local store when I could have bought it from Amazon and had it for slightly less money (the store charged me for USPS First Class Mail shipping) in two days, or possibly gone to a local competitor and had it the same day for about the same money. It isn't that I desperately need it, but it's irritating to know that I spent a lot of money on it and I don't have it in hand yet.

They promised when I bought it that it'd be here no later than this weekend. Maybe it'll be here Monday. :-(

I think the advantage of a local store is their knowledge. Lately I had to replace a wheel for my vintage roadcycle and I let the guys from the store do their work, fetching the best option for me and also changing gear, tube and tyre. I could've all done by myself, ordered online and payed less. But I almost invested zero time in that and payed more of course.

Also proper demos, recommendations and fixes on the fly are the strenght of local businesses. If I don't need that, and want the item delivered to my door, I order online.

N.B.: Living in Switzerland (as a foreigner) is almost as living on an island. There are items on amazon that are not delivered to Switz because they're sold here by local businesses with a hefty price tag. So I sometimes have them shipped to friends in Germany and I pick them up when I visit them.

Sometimes (my Parker Duofolds) items are sold through amazon with their German prices to Switz. If amazon handles all, the German tax is removed and replaced with the lower Swiss tax and an importing fee is added. The price of that items are then significantly lower than bought in Germany and of course I take that opportunity as I've also collected a couple of local shops within the 20 km range, that I also support.
