What Pen Are You Waiting For In The Mail 2017

I am awaiting the arrival of my Loiminchay Xingshu Script Calligraphy II 28-A Maki-e fountain pen.

I saw your pic on the other thread, and what a joyful experience opening that parcel must have been.

The anticipation would have been unbearable.

I am waiting for a Sailor 1911. Always waiting with bated breath until my next 'best pen' comes along and I get the opportunity to use. I am also waiting on some parts for my Parker 61.

What is this "Last Chance" that you speak of? I don't see it on their site.

Also, if you have any complaints with the converter you ordered, search youtube for a diy bulb converter. SIMPLE and works GREAT - even I made one in seconds - from a cartridge and sac. Basically, you just cut the end off of a cartridge that fits the Sport, and shellac a sac onto the remaining shorter piece that fits into the back of the section. Measurements are given in the video. 15 seconds to make one plus 30 min - 1 hr to dry! Genius!

Clever design, no doubt! But what is the advantage of a Biks filler v/s a cartridge just being refilled with a syringe (if any at all).

I fulfilled my promise to myself and stopped buying pens.

So I'm just waiting for a red ripple/woodgrain (I don't think it made up its mind) Typhoo Tea, a Watermans 502, a Watermans 12 PSF, and a Mari nib for an Osmiroid 65/75.

Bother. Might inadvertently be waiting for a Swan eyedropper and Jackdaw self-filler too. How did that happen?

Couldn't resist ordering one of the new clear EF Kakuno a couple of weeks ago, but I forgot to order the con-70 for it. Drats, cos that won't get here until a couple of weeks after the pen (and bunging a cartridge in it won't be the same).

There might be a few other things on other equally slow floaty-transports such as an opaque brown Prera, opaque grey Jinhao 992 and a yellow Jinhao 886 with a nib reground to cursive italic.

Will work for pens...

1) I don't think I'd enjoy trying to clean all traces of ink from the crevasse at the bottom of a cartridge. 2) The diy bulb filler holds about twice as much ink as a standard cartridge. 3) "DIY" doesn't equal "makeshift;" this device goes together smoothly and works extraordinarily well.

Maybe those differences are a matter of apples and oranges. The question could be asked, "Why would you ever want a converter when you can refill a cartridge?"

Come to think of it, why do manufacturers bother making different colors and styles of pens? We all have preferences.

Why refill a cartridge when making a bulb filler only takes a few seconds?

Thanks Ian, it was like every Christmas rolled into one. Here's some closer images of the pen.

A near mint Swan 'SM 1/57' with flexible nib and a boxed French production Bayard 'Le 4' pen in what seems to be a midnight blue color.

Bother Part 2 (+?). I seem to be waiting for another Swan eyedropper, another Osmiroid 65, and an unknown that looks like an early Mentmore. I'm not very good at this game, not through want of trying.

I am waiting for a Jinhao X750, with a few Pilot ink samples. I am also thinking of replacing my Jinhao's nib with a Goulet #6, since I have heard that the nibs are so hit and miss.

Wait until you've tried it before thinking about changing the nib.

I have around 20 Jinhaos and never had to change the nibs on any of them.

I have ground a few, but that was through my choice as they were all very good beforehand.

Ah, okay! I'll keep that in mind!

Thanks for explaining your perspective. I think you make good points a with regard to the functionality - the systems are different, fair point. The argument about different colour pens, etc. is more to do with aesthetics and so that is a different point. But, I appreciate your responses regarding the functionality.

Platinum #3776 with a music nib - it's a gift for my son. In six weeks he graduates Bachelor of Music (Classical Performance) with honours. We chose the rhodium trim.

He does already have the fountain pen bug - three rather beaten-up Lamy Safari that he uses daily and the memory of an Al-Star that was stolen. I hope he likes the Platinum. He has certainly earned something special.
