MontBlanc Greta Garbo

Oh of course I believe a true MB should be a piston filler.

Bottom line I think the pen is gorgeous and for woman it is the perfect pen.

I agree that this pen is mostly for women, as well as about the piston filler.

When I first started collecting pens, I was pretty much on the fence about internal fillers vs CC; each have their benefits. But gradually, my preferences shifted toward internal fillers and now I find that the fillers on the Garbo and the Kafka WE bother me : (

I love this pen  . Not for myself, since I consider it's one of the most (if not the most) feminine ones http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/3193/gayfightgk0ia8.gif; but, for a woman, it's simply perfect.

Tastes vary. I think the Greta Garbo is the nicest looking MB pen there is. I'd never buy one for myself, but I admire its look.

MBs are too "oh look at me" to be practical. Lamy pens own.

Some of MB pens are indeed eye catching like many other modern pen makers.

As for practical usability let me assure you MB makes some of the finest writesr out there.

MB 146 and 149 in my eyes are pens I can use all day long and they feel much better then many other pens.

As for Lamy, other then the 2000 (which I love) I find there nibs to be uninsparational and plain boring, the design is too modern with no soul. They make good reliable boring pens that leave me bored right out of my skull.

Writing is about passion and not utalitarian for me.

If I wanted only a relible writing tool I could have bought a Bic Stick for 25c

I'm not going all "no enjoyment just do it" on you. I care about looks. (If I cared only about reliability I would never lay my hands on a FP..)

I'm just sick of MBs being all flash for a ton of cash. Lamys are indeed practical, but also good looking, as well Parkers, Watermans, etc. This is just a clash of tastes, isn't it? Yes. That's fine. Diversity is good. :D

Truth be told, I really don't to clog this thread with another useless war. Thanks.

Totaly understandable.

Lamy indeed makes relativly reasonable priced pens that are reliable, there design like everything is a matter of personal taste.

But remember MB isnt alone in this expensive and flashy game.Visconti,Omas,Aurora,CP,CS,Krone,Stipula.....and many many more make today expensive and flashy pen, pointing at one pen maker that is only one of many is simply not fare, this is s trend that most high quality pen makers go for these days.

By the way there are lots of not flashy pens that MB makes but I agree some (like my new Pope) are very much over the top.

Respect to all

Beauty comes in different forms and guises. I like certain Montblanc pens because of how they look and write,

same reasons why I like certain Lamy pens.

I totally support Goodguy's views on MB! I think they make very decent pens, really good build quality.

I must say that your white Lamy Studios are a lot more appealing to me than most MB's...

Okay, so here's the plan:

You buy a couple of MBs (if it's all the same to you, the Schiller and the Pompadour seem particularly undesirable, so please go with those). Then I trade you for the nice white Lamy Studio LEs. Just in time for the holidays : )

Love your pens. The Garbo is my favorite MB but Lamy makes pens more in line with my budget. Though I'm not a fan of metal pens, I could make an exception for the white Studio LE. With an EF nib, that would do nicely indeed.

Dear People,

I've tried to be nice and diplomatic, but I see this method doesn't work, so I will be more direct:

Please do not use my review to make generalised, inflamatory comments about either Montblanc or Lamy. If you feel the need to discuss brand superiority issues, start a thread entitled "Why I prefer Lamy over Montblanc" or "Why I prefer Montblanc over Lamy".

Otherwise, this thread is specifically a review of the Greta Garbo pen. Please do not ruin others' enjoyment of the topic.

Many thanks for your understanding,

QM2

It seems as if Greta Garbo has got kittens. Found these pics of the new Etoile edition (standard & special) on Le Stylographe. Price again is 4 star so not really accessible.

I know that some compare the Etoile to the Greta Garbo, but to me they are very different pens. Yes, the Etoile also has curves... but it is missing all the things that gave the Garbo such charm. The Garbo is classic, subdued, minimalist, clean. The Etoile, on the other hand, is a bit  -- that is to say, overdesigned, disbalanced, unpleasant. Just my taste of course, but this is one MB collection I really dislike.

What I specially dislike in MB is that trend of sort of plastic traslucent vaulted top. No matter how precious its resin is, the look is quite cheapy. Not what I expect from that brand.

I have to admit, the Garbo is a beautiful pen, and I hope to treat my g'f for Christmas!

On the subject of Etoile...its just too OTT :headsmack: and should not be mentioned in the same breath as the Garbo!

Even with a little snowdrop diamond in it? Precious resin and a precious diamond in a precious protective dome--what else could you possibly ask for?

A plastic enclosure is not a suitable place for a diamond.

The Garbo is a gorgeous pen to be sure and your review was very sensible. It may well be the best (non LE) design MB has come out with since the 14* series in the fifties. Destined to become a classic. My question to you is why buy one when you can buy two for twice the price?
