Thanks for the review - how would you rate this as a starter / giveaway pen as compared to, say, a Lamy Safari, Pilot Metropolitan, or TWSBI Eco?

I have one of those. It resides in my desk at work. What you say about it is very true, however one problem I have with this pen is that the feed dries out very quickly. Quite often, I have to dip the pen into water to reawaken the feed after a week-end away. It's really annoying - especially as cheaper pens (Platinum Plasir) do not seem to exhibit the same problem.

I like the metal construction, and it looks more like it would fit into a business environment. I do really like the Lamy nibs better, but the Pelikan nib is very nice. Mine has been very reliable and I would recommend this a s a starter over a Pilot Metro, only because I don't like their nibs as much. IF I were going to get a first demonstrator, I would lean more to the TWSBI. I have three and the Diamond 580 is my favorite, but the Eco's are great for the price. Nice large ink capacity. The Pelikan is more "traditional" in its section geometry as well, where the Lamy Safari may turn some people off with the triangular shaped section.

Rating all of them I would scale it as:

1- Lamy

2 - TWSBI

3 - Pelikan

4 - Pilot

Thankfully I have not run into that. Hoping you can get that sorted out.
