Just a head's up. Shaffer Skrip Red ink is to be discontinued. A memo was sent to stores in Canada indicating that this ink will no longer be available.

Didn't Sheaffer just get bought by Cross? Is Cross going to be pushing their own brand of inks instead? (Do they have a red ink?)

Mind you, I didn't really LIKE Skrip Red.... But I know there were a lot of people on here for whom it was their "go to" red ink.

I have half a mind to run out and buy 5-10 bottles of the stuff.

But I'm a little weary of these announcements. I stocked up on Epinard and Sky High when they were getting discontinued, only to find that their replacements were virtually identical.

Do we know where this news came from? Did the announcement say anything about whether something will come as a replacement?

There was a lot of heartburn when sheaffer killed their peacock ink, but luckily it was before my time. I am perfectly content with Skrip turquoise. Hopefully that one is not going away.

A copy of the memo posted here would be good.

No more Sheaffer's red..if so..life goes on.

Oh..by the way I have a 2 oz. bottle of Sheaffer's Skrip washable #92 and

a couple of 4 oz. permanent #02........................................................................

After ruining Skrip Black and Red, which used to be wet and reliable, but are now dry and scratchy, now THIS. An inglorious end to a great tradition.

But maybe the Germans are used to dry ink and the wet Pelikan feeds to go with it. Just a guess.

I'm not rushing to buy any. What I have will probably last me the rest of my life, and I'm healthy (but not particularly young). It's a good color, but just not that seductive or, shall we say, slippery. (I like flowy inks.) Sayonara, Skrip 'Red'!

Very bad news for the fans of Binder Burgundy

+1 I was thinking the same thing. As I always have a pen in rotation with Binder Burgundy, I stopped by Andersons and picked up two bottles. Hopefully that will be enough. Didn't want to shut others out. I always get testy when one of the members jumps on and says..."I just bought seven bottles" or "I just bought ten bottles"...you know who you are! I always think "no wonder they're always sold out."

Rant over.

Did they give any kind of date for its demise?

It looks like it's starting to get a little scarce online in the U.K. It's not my favourite red, but I might just order a bottle or two...

This better be true -- it just cost me $100.

I went to Vanness to buy a bottle -- and got another $90 worth of other inks.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
