When you pay as much as MB charges for a replacement nib I can completely understand wanting a perfect product in return. That being said, I barely noticed the nib was off center in the picture (maybe it looks worse in person). That slight of an issue can be easily fixed by hand even if you're not a repair expert. I have zero skill in this type of thing but have made similar adjustments to some of my nibs. It's also not uncommon for a nib and feed to get misaligned over time with normal use and this generally has no effect on the writing experience. But again, when you pay MB prices for a repair you should get a perfect product back.

I'm currently on week 17 for my Ultra Black nib exchange. Also through the boutique that I purchased from, also no updates. Very disappointing.

They have black nibs for 1912? Sorry for the double post

The nib exchange service in the UK is pretty reasonable but my EF came back badly set unfortunately in that the tines were not touching which is apparently how they should be set (in a modern pen) but with an EF nib it catches the paper and is a terrible writing experience. I felt somehow it was me after returning my pen twice.

 

Hang in there - hopefully they’ll get it right for you.

 

As far as extra ‘finess’ that looks like a heritage edition like mine so will be a lot different as these nibs are a little springy. Eventually mine came back properly set and pretty fine.

 

It’s a smooth writer for now but you need to treat this one with respect and be super light with it as it’s pretty delicate writer.

Thank you for sharing the story, I eventually took care of the pen with my own hands :P

 

One thing with the current Montblanc EF nib is that, they changed the grinding style, it is not like a blade or a water drop like before, now it looks like a square.

Unfortunately some pens come back with a poor nib setting.

 

My OM (Homer) had poor ink flow and ink running on top of the nib. This should not happen :-(

 

Both recent EF nibs (Dean & Petit Prince) came back great!

 

All were send for a nib exchange through the retailer.

 

When sending a pen directly, I used to include a few specific notes on the requested setting.

This was my experience also with a Heritage pen (my avatar). The EF nib is finicky and choice of paper is important. There are still occasional stumbles as it appears to "catch," but I really like the "web-like" line it produces. I think you're right about the springy nib being a contributing factor.

Definitely not as EF as one of my vintage Sheaffer's flat tops or early Balance but it flows nicely, doesn't leak like an early vintage pen you've been carrying in your bag and it does write smoothly.

Montblanc quality control is really disappointing these days. I have sent my Le Petit back to Montblanc twice to fix the nib problem. And it finally came back with correct ink flow but some scratches.

I have not exchanged a nib for quiet a few years, however, when I first started collecting MB's I was made aware by a fellow collector that the pens sold in the UK had a lower gold content than those say sold in France, I gather their definition of gold starts at 18ct and not 14ct in the UK. Just a thought, I buy mine in Malta

I bought a 146 Solitaire, as an accountant I need a fine a different nib, I took it into the shop MB use to have in the Burlington arcade in London, they had a resident repair man, Kevin, who replaced the nib while I waited. Over the years until his untimely death he was brilliant turning everything round while you wait.
