Fake Montblanc Heritage 1912 Fountain Pen - Buyer Beware!

A piston filler as well as the retractable mechanism! Not happy about it but it is an impressive leap.

If you didn't know any better would you think it is genuine? Or that it feels cheap?

It will become even more difficult to recognize fakes based solely on images. With the ever decreasing costs of laser scanning and computer controlled manufacturing as well as 3-D printing duplicating something as simple as a fountain pen will just get easier and cheaper. The differences will be in the materials themselves and hard to identify without having a know example and the sample to test. Even those of use very familiar with a product can get fooled as I personally can attest. I bought an ST Dupont lighter online for a friend and it was only when I got the item and could compare it to an original one I owned that I could tell the difference.

It's annoying when it involves fountain pens or lighters or handbags but these criminals are also faking brake pads and turbine blades and prescription drugs and heart monitors and many many devices that can be life threatening.

True. 3D printing etc., is the future (you will be required to purchase a license to use a design and print it at home/a "print shop"... unless you have your own design). We will have very interesting enforcement issues in the future. Edited by REDEYEDROP

I managed to get hold of one of these fakes, sadly I dont have the original to compare it against, but it does appear to be a piston filler (of some kind) and the nib is magnetic.

I've a pic of my 1912's nib, you can see obviously the one you posted is already a fake.

Yes it is clearly a fake. I had already spotted the differences. I still don't know if the fake filler is the same as the authentic filler though. :)

It will take them no time to do those nibs if they really want... It´s getting a risk buying modern pens. A shame!

Medium price, medium volume. Un-educated clients.... that only see the star symbol, or clientes that know it´s a fake but prefer to pay a low value when compared to the real thing and think others will look at them and believe it´s the real thing....

Some basics will become increasingly important in the future.

If the deal seems too good ...

Buy the seller as much as the product. Really examine past histories of sellers.

Know the product you are intending to buy. Do your research first instead of asking "Is what I just bought authentic?"

Buyer Beware. If you have doubts just say No!

Pay attention to the transaction. If someone is hard to reach or communicate with before the sale, drop it and run. I assure you once they have your money you will get even less attention.

Use payment methods that favor the buyer. Do not use debit cards, they are just like a cash transaction and often offer no recourse. Use services like PayPal or credit cards where you can dispute a charge.

So which one is the real S.T. Dupont lighter? My guess is the one on the right. I've got a Ligne 2 and a Gatsby. I know the Gatsby is real. I'm pretty sure my Ligne 2 is too but I still have doubts about it.

The one on the right is authentic. But I see far too many ST Dupont lighters direct from an Estate Sale sell for $150.00 or best offer. By the way, the case that came with it was also a fake.

Apologies for the late response as I just returned from my vacation in South Korea. Anyway, I doubt the filler system will be the same or exactly the same at least.

The 1912 is truly an awesome pen and is currently my daily writer at work.
