Bock 'platinum' Nibs

Hi All,

Just a quick curiosity. I was looking on Bock's website earlier, and they appear to make Platinum nibs labelled Platinum 950(95% platinum).

I can't seem to find any info online about them, and there aren't any manufacturers that seem to use Platinum nibs in their pens. Can you purchase these nibs anywhere, and has anyone used them ? If so, what are they like ? I'd be greatly appreciative if anyone could share their knowledge.

Cheers :)

Hello,

I know Karas Kustom Pens in Arizona uses Bock. Maybe reach out to see if they carry those ones? Karas does sell individual too I think. I know when I went in to their shop, they assembled a pen to my taste right there.

The pen, is truly mightier than the sword!

95% for platinum, is = to 750/18K if you do jewelry. I saw a very, very rare 950 pocket watch on a TV auction show.

I do not know how flexible that 95% platinum would be. Could be a nail....and a nail's a nail, gold, platinum or steel....and steel would be best buy for a nail.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

Thanks for making my day!

I have been looking for a Platinum nib for months. The 250 fits my spec for a pen i made a long while ago which i posted the details on FPN made of Mammoth ivory.

I fitted a size 8, 18 ct gold plain Bock nib which i had rhodium plated on my pen which at the time gave the right look, but i will be buying this nib straight away.

Thanks again for the link

@Custom Pen Parts & R531 (O.P.),

Beaufort Ink in the U.K. is a Bock nib reseller. They do not stock platinum Bock nibs (I have never seen anyone that does), but if anyone can get one, they can. Also, Beaufort Ink carries taps that match the threads on the Bock Triple System nib units. Finally, as is often the case you will probably get a better small quantity price from a reseller or distributor compared with buying direct from the factory, if that is even possible. Here is the link for Beaufort Ink:

I've just stumbled across this thread - thanks for the link by the way David.

We've have never been asked for platinum nibs. The more usual choice is palladium, which has more "give" in it than platinum. The two metals are indistinguishable to look at but platinum is more dense than palladium, so is quite hard on the page. Bock don't actually keep any platinum nibs in stock and the minimum order for them would be 250, which I suppose is a measure of how rarely they are asked for.

We obtain palladium nibs quite frequently for customers, and the last lot never actually made it on to the website because they were mostly pre-sold. I think we still have a medium 250 in stock.

I am happy to order any palladium nibs you wish for delivery in April - that's the earliest Bock can supply them I'm afraid, (except broad - again Bock only make those to order and 250 would be the minimum)

I know this is an old post but in case anyone is curious about the availability of platinum Bock nibs in the U.S., this is the response I got from Bock:

"Unfortunately, we don’t sell small nib quantities and our minimum order value is 1,500.00 EUR net. For small nib quantities or for testing our nibs with BOCK logo, please contact the following company in the US: Karas Kustoms."

Karas doesn't list them on their site, but you might want to contact them directly if you're interested.

Hi Everyone,

I know that this is an old thread (and this is my first FPN post, so please forgive me), but fpnibs.com is actually offering the line of Bock platinum nibs for sale along with their customization options.  You can see it here:

I've never tried a platinum nib, so I stumbled across this thread while trying to find out some more information.

Thanks,

Ken
