What Inks Are Known To Clean Your Pen?

Hi!

Reading here and there I found mention of inks that have properties such that they can remove the remains of other inks inside the pen's reservoir. I even read of an ink that successfully removed stains from a demonstrator left by another ink. Cannot remember the name. Another recollection is that some of these properties were exhibited by Parker SolvX inks, but never tried.

I think it would be great if people with knowledge could share their experience in this thread to summarize what inks have these properties.

Hello,

I have used the Noodler's Rattler Eel Red and Sailor Jentle Doyou both worked very well by removing some old inks.

Yes, these are the two that get mentioned the most for this problem.

Check with amberleadavis. She cleaned BSB out of a demonstrator pen.

Oh, you remembered!

First check out this thread for overall great tips about cleaning.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Next Check out Rattler Red from Noodler's and Sailor Do-you. Here is Rattler Red in Action.

So, I stained one of my Pelikan Pens:

After serious flushing and sonic bathing, it looked like this:

After 1 fill with Noodler's Rattler Red - American Eel ink, it looks a lot better. I'll post photos AFTER I do another flush.

And here is what you can really see when you use a good cleaning ink:

Edelstein Tanzanite seems to do the trick.

I hadn't realized how murky my green M600 had become until it had a couple of weeks on Tanzanite.

You mentioned the SolvX inks. I'm not sure, but Parker Quink has always been mentioned as having certain limited pen-cleaning qualities. It seems to work even better if you add some extra detergent such as Ivory dish detergent. There is probably a thread somewhere by a real expert on the matter.

A plain overnight soak with warm water wil remove most any ink, unless it is a really aweful stainer of pens, such as Levenger's red. That ink also invariably clogs my pens.

I use vintage Quink which has Solvex for this purpose. Back in the early days of eBay I bought a lot of vintage Quink when one could get a couple dozen bottles at a time for $50.00 plus shipping.
