Maruzen is a big brand department store in Japan. They carry their own line of pens and inks named Century and Athena. It seems most of their inks are made by Sailor. I'm not sure how many inks they offer at the moment but I know they have some stunning colors in the line up. It seems follwoing inks were / are offered to customers:

  1. Akane (limited edidion, Nihomnashi branch)
  2. Eternal Blue
  3. Fukurou (2016 LE)
  4. Hatobanezu
  5. Kirin
  6. Lemon
  7. Midori
  8. Renga
  9. River Blue
  10. Sepia (Athena branch)

If anyone is able to complete the list, I would be grateful.

Ethernautrix sent me a sample of Hatobanezu. Thank you Lisa ;)

Hatobanezu does little to thrill me. It's well behaved ink and even water resistant. However I find the color dull and rather boring and if not boring a little depressing. Some of you might enjoy it but I don't. At all.

Intriguing.

Had I not made 250ml of "Lemon Jif" by combining all my failed blue black mixes then I may well have made investigations into this one.

Thanks again for your review and time.

The blue-ish nature of the grey reminds me a bit of Papier Plume's Oyster Grey.

Regards, greg

PS: Thanks for all your hard work doing reviews

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

Nie ma za co, Visvamitra!

Sounds like Maruzen Hatobanezu is the Radiohead of gray inks, because I love it, but others find it... sad or depressing. (*Laughing*) [i'd been enjoying Radiohead for years when an acquaintance blurted, "Radiohead? Aren't they melancholy?" And I realized, he was right, and I had never noticed it. Still love Radiohead.]
