* Now, this being an IG means it has a mind of its own, dependant on paper type.

The Rhodia I always write my ramblings on shows the ink off to be quite dark whereas my swatch, watercolour papers, my everyday Q Connect Bank Paper and the wondrous Tomoe River allow its vintage qualities to shine through and present it a lot paler, even after nearly a week.

(I've gone off Rhodia now  )

I love your rambling but the colour doesn't do anything to me. Too cloudy. Now if I could watch that rushing out of my pen onto the paper in front of my eyes.... :puddle:

Thanks for rambling. I don't have this one, but I really like both KWZI IG Blue-Black and IG Blue #3.

I never stop rambling . . .

Looks nice but not really my kind of colour, too somber... but a great "rambling"!

Sorry :(

I especially like the color when it's fresh. Very pretty.

Nice pen, too!

The pen is mad. About a 1000 turns to undo its mega cap but somehow I don't mind. It's like a warm up to writing or sketching.

(The nib is / was an Iridium Point Germany, too smooth, baby's bottom too smooth so I popped an old Noodler's Nib Creeper in it. Yummy . . .)

Gotta love the KWZI IG BBs

Thanks for this review!

I got my first sample of this ink a couple days ago and, wow, it's everything I had hoped for--a perfect balance of blue and black with amazing shading and permanence!

It removed Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black from the blue-black throne for me as well.

All's well that ends well. So pleased it has lived up to its ecpectation.

Spread the word . . .

I've found my KWZ IG's (green gold and turquoise) to just not be as good as I hoped, closer to R&K Iron Gall than Diamine Registrar's (one of my favorites due to its crazy pale initial color to a DARK blue over a few minutes) or platinum classics. I will try a few more, but I was also hoping for better performance on poorer quality papers.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

I concur with the IG Green Gold. It is far too wet for any of my pens. I can't get a thin crisp line out of it and sadly have been told not to mix it either

I thought the IG turquise, however, was a goodie. I was sent a sample and loved its behaviour and looks but I'm not a fan of those bright colours.

Please don't be put off. Try others. They all have their own personality. :)

This IG Blue #1 scratches my itch for a pure blue-black with with excellent water resistance and flow.

Only one negative aspect for me, it left some black iron residue in my Nemosine converter that I can't get out because the converter can't be taken apart.

Hi @TruthPil

Concerning residues - please have a look at this https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/319306-cleaning-residue-from-prolonged-iron-gall-exposure/

If you have any further problem with cleaning, please contact KWZ directly

Best wishes

Wow, what a quick response! Thanks, Mrs. KWZI!

By the way, your inks are AMAZING and will force me to get rid of a lot of other inks to make room for them. :D :D :D

Could I ask a favour please Tas... could you have a look at your originals for the IG Blue #1 now and let me know how much of the blue is still showing on the writing?

The reason I ask is that the swab on the box and bottle that I have just bought has totally dropped all the blue and now shows just as grey. I don't know if it is a feature of the paper/card the box and label are made out of but it would be useful to have a long term review of the colour change.

Thanks.

Thank you for your ramblings! The color doesn't do anything for me though.

Last week I looked at my writing sample of this ink that I put in my ink journal a few months back and the blue had indeed disappeared entirely. The writing is now just varying shades of grey. The same was true for the writing samples done with wet nibs as well as dry nibs. It was written on thick clairefontaine paper that gets minimal exposure to light.

I personally am not too hung on the color of these or any IG ink, after all, good IG ink turn black no matter what ... if I want color and I want them permanent, I look to calligraphy & artist ink instead. Still KWZ IG ink tend to keep the color better with the scarification of permanence.

Actually now I think about it, it isn't really a problem if KWZ IG Blue #1 (or even the archival strength KWZ IG Blue-Black) drop the blue dye over time as long as enough of the iron gall black remains.

I just looked at my old recipe book, written with ESS Registrars on Clairfontaine about three years ago and it too has lost the blue, leaving the greys and blacks behind. It is still perfectly legible.

I suspect if we ask Konrad, he would explain that the IG colours except for Blue-Black have less of the IG by design to make them easier to use on a daily basis and to permit a broader range of initial colours but enough IG to do their job once oxidised. The Archival Blue-Black is the one for folks who want the real residual black alongside the higher maintenance.

I will see how wet the Blue #1 goes down from my TWSBI 580 Fine and see if I think it will endure enough to use in the recipe book. If it goes too grey too quickly, I will get some of the Archival Blue-Black and use that instead.

Yeah, these IGs are great for permanence (although lightfastness is often questionable).

It's just that they tend to fade to black if there's any significant amount of IG in them.
