I find it interesting that no one showed any eyedropper pens, e.g., Pen of Pens, x series, Parker 40, Giraffes, Aztecs, Snakes, Swastika, etc

Are people not interested, are they too rare, or ???

A guy in Northern California owns most of them...

I'd love to post pictures of great eyedroppers like that, but I don't own anything near that great. I'm not familiar with the "pen of pens, x series, or giraffe" though.

Are you familiar with the Parker 40?

Pen of Pens was a solid gold pen that came in 2 configuratios- one with a diamnd on the end and another with diamonds scattered on the barrel and cap-- sold for 200-250 depending of the year and which model, 3 were stolen from the Parker safe in their big robbery. One was given as a present to Wiiliam Jennings Bryan. I have seen only one. The archives reportedly has a bos but no pen.

Ax, Bx, CX and DX were 14K that got fancier as the letters increased and had jewels in the CX and DX and maybe the BX- I would have to look. They were less expensicwe -- 40-90 dollars which was not shabby in 1905.

Giraffe pens were never catlogued- they came in 14K and GF, At least 4 or 5 GF and 2 14K are known.

Paker 40 was a heavy repousse pen that as heavily advertised but they are very rarely seen

I would be happty see pictures of Parker 35 36, 43 44 or similar pens which are not as rare but beautiful pens Parker 32 ED are also very nice Wouldn' mind seeing a silver Parker 30 either. Paker 11 in the rarer colors and patterns are also desirable-- some nice examples are in the archive photos

You see these pens occassionally at pen shows so they are definitely out there

  • 4 weeks later...

I recently bought a modern Duofold Centennial Big Red. Upon arriving the date code turned out to be III Q. I think this is one of the original 1000 unnumbered LE's. Funny, I just wanted a Big Red. Anyway, I don't really know how rare it is, it's just a beautiful pen, far more beautiful than any picture.

I wonder if that was joke since Bryan was a fierce advocate of "free silver" and against the gold standard. I hadn't heard of the Parker "Pen of Pens" until today.

The Pen of Pens was given as a gift to Bryan-- he did not chose it. Here is some info re the pen of pens. I understand that there is a box for the pen in the archives but they don't have the pen. I saw one but can't remember who had it. Oh well

BTW, if any other of these early Parkers are of interest, list them and I will try to find pictures of them from my collection of pen pictures.

I must admit my knowledge of Parkers prior to the introduction of the Duofold is pretty shallow. The pens you posted to the thread are quite beautiful and I can tell from the few examples that you included that you must have an impressive collection of early Parkers. It would be nice to photos of Parkers besides the ubiquitous Duofolds, Vacumatics, 51s, 45s etc.

Not super rare, breathtaking depth, or fun celluloids, or experimental, but unmentioned so far.

Ladies Parker Pastel Mauve ring top in pristine condition. Despite its perfect nail nib, I think I paid more for this pen than any other, maybe a decade + ago.

I use the burgundy Demi-51. It's a comfy pen, super nice nib. No worries about stains, which is why the Pastel ought to pass along to adorn a "collection"..

...at some point.

Nice thread, enjoying the photos. The Pastel shot is on an old PC.

The first is a Parker 36, I think this shows how much more stunning silver pens are as compared to the same pen in GF or 14K (Parker 35).

The second pen is a 14K Parker 40-- not too sure about the cap which I doubt is correct.

Here is another extremely rare Parker which is the only one known. See if you can ID it.

Wow! Rare or not, all the pens being mentioned/shown here are really cool indeed!

Rarest: Not sure which one takes the crown in terms of rarest but these spring to mind while i'm at work and they're all very cool to me - a red Duofold Jr with a Medium Italic nib, a 75 Ambassador, a green 45 Harlequin. Oh, just before I hit the Post button, i just remembered the 61 Rainbow set that my best mate gifted to me.

Favourite: Right now, I'm thinking it's between a silver pearl sword-clipped Royal Challenger or a black Shadow-Wave Vac. Normally I would have chosen the latter with its beautiful F nib but lately I find myself appreciating the broader lines of the M nib on the Challenger (eye problems are causing this).

I've just realised that apart from the green Harlequin (and the 61 set), all the pens I've mentioned here have been in rotation.

You can't always get what you want... but if you try sometimes... you just might find... you'll get what you need...
