Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu (Evergreen Pine)

As nearly everyone knows Sailor, a Japanese company, makes very fine pens and very fine inks. This ink came out with the most recent issue of "Four Seasons" inks a few years back. (A new release is coming soon, perhaps October 2016.) I've had this ink a while, and I'm sure I've used it, but it appears I never actually reviewed this ink.

Some folks prefer their greens to lean either towards blue or towards yellow. This one leans towards blue as you might expect from being called "Evergreen Pine". Not as dark as Miruai, Tokiwa-matsu definitely shows as a green ink. So chances are you can't cheat at work pretending it's a black. But it has all the good Sailor qualities of flow and lubrication and rich saturation we have come to appreciate.

The usual papers for me: Mohawk via Linen=MvL, Tomoe River=TR, Hammermill 28 lb inkjet=Hij.

Quite shady on all papers I used. The B nib on the Pelikan lays down a lot of ink with this wet Sailor.

Lots of red sheen on Tomoe River.

Not completely washed away, but definitely not very water resistant either. Fairly typical actually.

Thanks to you both. I decided to get in gear and finish a bunch of reviews that I'd been meaning to do for a while. Still have another score of inks in bottles to work through.

Your comprehensive reviews are ALWAYS appreciated; especially with all these exciting new Sailor inks, some I will assuredly only read about. Thank you again for making it possible for so many of us to share in your beautifully selected inks.

I've grown to like this ink a lot but I had mixed feelings about it initially. The heavy red sheen on some papers makes it look like the ink is bleeding, so kind of gross a little unsettling, while the color on cheap paper struck me as dull and uninteresting. However, with use, I've come to like the 'dull' color more and more and this is now my second favorite green (after Miruai).

Thank you for another thorough review. This is a great ink; it's in my top 5 & one of only a select few that I have more than 1 bottle of. It's great for mixing too - try a mix with something like Waterman or 4001 brown for an interesting result ....... :-)

Another great review and it really is a lovely ink. Just my sort-of colour.

Just my sort of colour too! In fact, I came close to buying it recently but didn't go through with the purchase which I now regret. Very enjoyable series of reviews - thank you.

thanks for the great review! This has been one of my favourite inks since I tried it in 2010. I use it all the time and absolutely LOVE it.

saskia! I bought this ink on the strength of your review; also Murai, Yama-dori and, most recently, Tsuki-yo.

white_lotus and inkstainedruth have persuaded me that Take-sumi awaits.

Great Review and thanks Saskia for the follow up.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
