Sterling Silver Meisterstücks

Hello,

I've been looking for sterling silver Solitaires on the web and noticed there were (or are?) several versions. One of them has stripes alongside the body, which also extend to the piston knob. Another one has a kind of wavy texture, but only on the body itself, the piston knob being plain. Some of them have a regular 146 nib (that is, gold edges with rhodium inlay), while others seem to have a completely white one. Some have plain gold accessories, whose yellow color clashes with the silver, while others have them white like the rest of the pen.

Has anyone got a list of all sterling silver Solitaires? I'd like to know what other combinations exist.

Secondly, are they made of solid silver? Or are they just silver plated?

If it's silver all the way through, then doesn't it react with the ink? Does one have to be extremely careful about the pH of the inks one uses? Or is the ink chamber lined in plastic, so there's no need to worry?

Thank you.

The sterling silver solitaires are resin body with sterling silver overlay. So ink does not come in contact with the silver.

If it is STERLING silver, i.e. solid silver rather than plated, then they are hallmarked Ag925. The clip would usually be made of brass (metal) and plated because solid silver would not have enough spring.

('Vermeil' is gold plated over sterling silver)

Thanks. I had missed that thread.

As far as I can see, leaving the doué aside, there are only three kinds of sterling silver Solitaires:

1. The original barleycorn, with a piston knob in the same pattern as the body, and gold trim.

2. The new zig-zag pattern, with a plain piston knob and silver (or rhodium, whatever) trim. It also features a mother-of-pearl star and a tiny diamond.

3. The 'pure silver', which looks like no.1 but with silver trim. I don't know about the piston knob.

I don't like the gold trim of no.1. It clashes with the rest of the pen.

I don't like the plain piston knob of no.2. It clashes with the rest of the pen. Neither do I like the ostentatious and feminine diamond.

No.3 seems to be what I want, but I'm not sure about the piston knob. Is it plain, like no.2, or in the same pattern as the body, like no.1?

All of these seem to have a standard 146 nib (that is, with gold-coloured edges). Is there any sterling silver model that comes with a completely white nib (like the one of the Tribute to the Mont Blanc)?

About the body, if it's plastic with a silver overlay, is it repairable in case of an accident? If I drop the pen and the body cracks, can Montblanc remove the overlay and mount it on a new body? It's not glued to the body, or something like that, is it?

Vlad - for your listed #2, older versions have a resin star. You can also request a clip without a diamond if bought from MB.

I have owned a few MB silver pens. This is one I made into a desk pen so does not actually exsist as an official MB as such. The other solitaire desk pens I owned had silver bases. This is the vermeil version and the hallmark can clearly be seen
