Stupid Question

Thank you for reminding us, for the sake of newbies, that "fountain pen speak" is not English. Let's try harder to speak clearly, so potential friends are not alienated. Everyday Carry; eyedropper; fountain pen; ballpoint pen; etc. please.

I was unable to find a source, but I remember that someone pointed to me that the term EDC was an invention of the luxury industry in the attempt to justify the multiplication of carry-on gadgets. Has anyone heard about it? Maybe it is just my elucubration.

Did any other physicians landing on this planet experience initial confusion regarding "EDC," since, in our world, that stands for "expected date of confinement?" Of course that's medical jargon for "when is the baby expected to be born."

I am pretty sure that the gun guys had that usage long before.

Meaning the pistol that you are carrying everyday, typically in concealed carry mode (with a valid license).

The OP's question has been answered. There's another acronym for you. Original poster in this case, although I suppose coming from our more knowledgeable members it could be "Oracular Pronouncement". But although not needed, I'll just add.

  1. There really are such things as stupid questions, although telling a particular person that he has asked one will usually be unnecessarily rude, and with some people and circumstances may actually be dangerous.
  2. The original question was not stupid at all. A perfectly reasonable thing to wonder about.
  3. One of these days, if I remember, I'm going to counter the trend of posting threads titled with some variant of "stupid question". I'm going to post something with the thread title "A Highly insightful and Intelligent Question". But I haven't thought of such a question yet, so please feel free to beat me to it.
