New To Fountain Pens And Loving Them

Hey all, I'm a high schooler from Berkeley, California who just started using fountain pens and is quickly becoming obsessed. My handwriting isn't quite good enough to deserve them, but I'm working on it.

Howdy from Pittsburgh!

What pen(s) and ink(s) do you have?

I generally recommend that people click on the "view New Content" button when they log in -- that gives them a good overview of a lot of different topics. And also to check out the pinned Index to the Ink Reviews (I had no idea how many different inks were out there when I started).

hey y'all! I'm currently using a pilot metro (F), a noodler's nib creaper, and a platinum preppy (EF), with noodler's x-feather black. I've got coming on mail order some diamine inks, and I'm thinking about ordering some of the J. Herbin 1670 inks and some of the diamine shimmers.

For what it's worth, I find that my handwriting is improving the longer I use fountain pens almost exclusively... So, over time you may find that they've somehow made you "deserve" them. ;-)

Hi queerspaceman,

Welcome to the FPN.

I found that my handwriting improved when I started using fountain pens.

I, too started out using Fine-nibbed pens. One day I decided to order a Medium nib. When my " Medium " arrived & I inked her up, my handwriting seemed to improve exponentially. It was a Waterman Carene. I couldn't understand why the great improvement in my writing happened! I finally checked the order form and realized that I had accidentally ordered a Stub nib! I'm not saying that the only reason my writing improved was the Stub. But I've been mostly using Stub-ish sized nibs since then. It sure seems to have helped me.

I do have a Cursive Italic nib on a Pelikan M200 Cognac and I'm getting to really like it too. It offers a bit more line variation while writing.

Enjoy your stay.

thanks! Yeah, i got a medium pilot plumix and while I'm not sure if my handwriting is any better with it, I definitely tend to be more careful and take my time.
