What Would You Like To See Coming From Franklin-Christoph?

Heads up.

New Model came out from FC. Model 31 'Omnis'

Direct quote from their site:

"♦ The Model 31 encompasses features from several F-C models. The grip section is like that of the 40 Panther, the silhoette is a slightly slimmer version of the 19, precision posting like the 20, 45, and 03, cut grooves and recessed nib like the 20. While on IPO has "IPO" engraved on the back of the cap above the 31."

They had me at Panther Section.

After a heroic battle, self restraint lost out to temptation.

I opted for the all black model with a 1.5 nib.

The name 'Omnis' has the following thought behind it.

"♦ Some from all, into one."

I have a couple Mariettas and a 1901and really enjoy them. Their nib selection is awesome and I've never had one that wasn't perfect straight out of the (box) leather pouch. I think it might also be the least expensive way to acquire a Masuyama nib. The new XLV and Omnis are calling my name and will most likely be my next pen acquisitions. I look forward to the surprises the FC team has coming our way in 2017. Kudos to Scott, Jim and Team FC.

A Pocket 40 with red and black wood grain ebonite body and antique-glass frosted cap with red finial.

If this pen is ever offered, I'll pre-order.

1. Would love to see a model 19 in coco & pearl.

2. Would love to see more availability of antique glass.

3. More Masuyama nibs available for purchase!

I have two 19s. The first is black with green bands--the Pendleton Brown edition, from the time before F-C's relationship with Mike Masuyama. The nib is Pendleton's Butter-line Stub, from an 18k broad. The second is smoke and cinnamaroon, a color combination I like very much. I feel very lucky to have it, since it is only rarely available. The nib is a Masuyama medium cursive italic, from a 14k medium. The nibs are the highlight of both of these pens, as you would expect from two very talented nibmeisters. The appearance of both pens could have benefited from making the finial and tail piece from the same color as the bands. The clip is my least favorite part of the newer pen. It won't slide onto the pocket of a lab coat without pulling the bottom of the clip out. The older clip on the Pendleton edition pen is a little less troublesome.

I don't find the plastic that F-C uses for their pens to be very attractive, but the pens are well-made and functional. The nibs are where these pens really shine--they are a couple of the best I've ever used, and F-C's regular steel nibs are nothing to sneeze at, either. If you want a practical modern cartridge/converter pen with a superb nib, get yourself to a pen show (early) and try the testers. You're almost certain to find a nib that's just right for you.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

I might be in the minority but I love the abditus and would love to see it in the antique glass, ice, or ebonite finish...

It has been a long time since I've logged into FPN.

I know this might make some things redundant but I'd like to see Bock italic nibs being offered alongside their current line or maybe replacing some of the current nib line.

All three grades 1.1, 1.5, and 1.9 in both numbers #5 and #6.

I think that's really something best dealt with aftermarket. In order to avoid making some number of Bock threaded sections that would otherwise be incompatible with all of the Jowo nib options, it would require assembly of Bock nibs with Jowo housing, which is something that can already be done by the owner. Would be more hassle for F-C & the only discernable diff for the buyer being the F-C diamond.

Valid point.

But currently no one is selling Bock italic nibs in the US. I had to get mine from the UK.

If they wanted to, they could come up with a nib collar that fits the existing threads in the section.

I've gone after market on my own and tried to make things fit but it is never as good as something coming direct from FC. The fit is sloppy, it may leak ink on occasion.

For me the writing experience is quite different with Bock nibs compared to JoWo.

I own both the Model 19 and the new model 31. Love them both.

I'd like to see the Model 19 body with the Model 31 section. I tend

to like the shape of the 31 section better. I know it fits as I have

already tried it. Maybe match the section color and the bands.

.... A way of buying them in the uk without being hit by import duty and VAT (i.e. a reseller over here) :D

In order of priority for me:

  1. Better stock, particularly with their demonstrator models.
  2. Better photos of the pens. Its sometimes hard to get a clear picture of how a pen in the different materials actually looks.
  3. Larger nibs, e.g. a Jowo #8 (or something longer would be even better, since the #8 is mostly just fatter).
  4. More nib choices. They already offer a great variety, it's one of their pros. I think they should build on that given that their pens are not very 'exciting'. E.g. offering Bock nibs. Shouldn't be to difficult deliver each pen with a second section?
  5. More large pens like the Model 66 is perfect in terms of girth.
  6. Offer pens in other materials, e.g. carbon fibre, something with more texture etc.

I want to see a Snap Cap with a longer section like that of the Panther or Omnis. I would have already bought the Model 20 Marietta if it didn't have such a limited section that forces me to hold the pen so close to the nib. For me the section of the Marietta is awful...

I don't want a drastically angled section like many of the hour glass shapes (Model 02) that forces me into a pincer grasp, but one that allows my fingers to relax effortlessly like the fluted grips of the Panther or Omnis.

I don't want a step down from the body to the section or a minimal one if it has to be there. I feel the Omnis and Panther do a good job with this. I don't mind a minimal step down. I like to use the threads/ stepdown as a grip if I choose to hold the pen higher, but if the step down is too large, it defeats the purpose of the fluted section (like the omnis or panther) because it works a little like the hourglass sections that force you into that pincer grasp.

I don't want a pocket version, but something that is long enough without being posted, but I definitely don't want something too long like those Stabilus models (ugh). I hate having to have to post my pens to use them or to make them feel comfortable. I prefer not to post my pens, but if I need to post them I don't want it to be awkward or back weighted.

So basically something like the omnis or panther with a snap cap or a Model 20 with a section like the Omnis or the Panther.

There is definitely a severe lack of snap caps with these characteristics. Definitely a severe lack of good snap caps in this price range that have a nice acrylic build to provide a lightweight feel to complement the need of a quick and easy use the Snap Cap allows.
