That cap is unforgivable. While the material itself isn't too bad to look at, the cap makes the pen absolutely terrible to look at.

Wasn't there anything other than black ebonite to use for the cap?

Depends on you choices and looks .. I love that combination and it's made to look good to me ,not you .. so it may appear terrible to you . You are more than welcome to make a pen to your preference with this material if you like .. and yes I do have a cap in the same material which is still being made but this design is aesthetically pleasing to me me and a lot other of people..
