Black Stripe family - vintage Pilot

Bob, you are correct in that the older capless shown had production started in 1964. My particular copy has a H766 (July 1966) date stamp on the nib, and I think they made this particular style up until around 1970.

Jerry, I also find these pens very reliable. I don't quite know how Pilot did it, but I also find the smaller faceted models fit my larger than average hand very well. I'm confident that the Decimo would be just as good (I don't own one yet). There's just something about the design that works. I have a Stealth model too and find it a joy to write with.

Ger, you know I don't have a Binderized VP yet either and I have to change this. I just have to decide on a size. Cursive Italic 0.6mm might be in the cards. Hmmmmm...

All of this talk about VP's is inspiring me to do a montage of them. ;)

A 0.6mm italic! None of this cursive nonsense :P Maximum thick/thin differentiation yes! Sorry I've been stuck in the computer labs all day and I'm frazzled.

Yes you should do a montage! I shall shoot more dirty looks in your general direction as aforementioned montage pushes me towards yet another pen purchase. Everyone needs a scapegoat, I intend to use you :P

You sound like a rant from Monty Python!

I've never been a scapegoat before. Is it hard to do? Will it affect my personage? ;)

You might find the scapegoat's diet a little, ah, less than choice, Gary, but other than that, it's not so bad!

After our last exchange, I added three more pens to my "must have" list, so I'm with Ged on this issue.

Great photos and an even better collection. That striped capless was something! Pilot should bring that back on the current models. Thanks for sharing!

As stunning as those pens are, I'm wondering if the images you gave us exceed the sum of its parts.

Ah - well, thank you. :) I guess the lined stainless steel evoked feelings of skyscrapers in my mind.

Thanks, Southpaw. Hopefully Pilot will see a good return on the Decimo and Fermo, prompting consideration for another variant. If they made a modern day version of the black stripe Capless, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Maybe what Pilot needs is a nice comparative photo exposé of it next to a Decimo. If I was more skilled in Photoshop, I'd try merging the two.

EDIT: I've updated the content and now include a brief review of the black stripe pen series by pen (previously, it was just a summary paragraph with a photo montage).

I thought maybe you guys would know. I just bought a NOS Black Stripe Custom that had a pair od Black Stripe cufflinks in the box. They are marked Pilot Silver. I know the sterling pens were sold wit these, but this is a stainless. Was this a normal option and are the worth anything?

Thanks.

Hi Myu I am curious if the Con 70 converter fits into the full size Custom fountain pen in this black stripe set? I have the squeeze converter from a Pilot Metro in mine and would love to have a higher ink capacity. Your collection is pretty cool!
