New Zealand Pass Around Ink Sample Library?

I write on Midori paper and I did notice the sheen, especially on the Oku bud - its pretty spectacular for a reddish/brown colour the sheen has specks of green, blue and gold.

On another note, it looks like Im on a plane next week so what I'll do is fill up a few vials and pass the box on early next week.

I have to say, its really interesting trying the samples. Ive never been big on blue but have been smitten by the sailor and a couple of the iroshizuku - they have amazing sheen to them. I usually use wet and broad nibs (mostly Montblanc O3Bs, and a couple of Lamy BB and 1.5mm) and typically like to see some level of shading - the Iroshizuku line does not give you dramatic shading but my god that sheen is luscious.

Ive added the following inks:

R&K Alt goldgrun

R&K Scarbiosa

R&K Blue Mare

J Herbin Ambre de Birmanie

J Herbin Poussiere de Luna

J Herbin Cacao du Bresil

J Herbin Lie de The

Noodler's Apache Sunset

R&K Sepia (I think??)

The box is packed up now and I will look to get it off to the next destination in the next few days. As you can imagine, I had inky fingers for most of the weekend :)

Thanks Kelvinkeh! Which Iro inks did you like best?

If you like the R&K Alt Goldgrun you might like Diamine Safari. I tried a sample today and its certainly very different to your standard primary colours. Its quite a cool colour while still being easy to read. My wife unflatteringly called the colour '5 day old bruise' lol.

Tsuki-yo is beautiful, but Asa ago is the one that really surprised me. Its a much brighter shade of blue than Id normally use for everyday writing, but the sheen you get on Midori paper is just crazy!

  • 2 weeks later...

I'd be up for this as well (a bit late on the train). Located in Auckland and keen to try out some new inks and offload some to other peeps ;).

Nice to see a lot of people here- perhaps we should organise a NZ meet up at some point!

Too far (Dunedin) and too lazy to participate but really nice to see this happening. Good work Hippo!

Yes! I remember you telling me to check out the UBS! Although I work 2min from there I've never had the chance to drop by.

Well that makes 2 of us from Dunedin!

Its still with me but unfortunately Im not in country at the moment. It will head off to PJO this weekend when I get back (or more likely on Monday). I definitely like the look of iroshizuku's but the Sailor Oku Yama is by far my favourite.

Hi everyone,

New to the forum and FP game, also based in Dunedin. I count three of us!

If people wanted to do get a local ink swap going or a joint buy for pens/ink to save on shipping at some point, I would be keen. I have a small collection of R&K inks.

Cheers
