New Zealand Pass Around Ink Sample Library?

Hi Kiwis

I know there are a select few of you here. I was hoping to gauge interest in a pass around box for various ink samples? It can be hard to get sample inks in NZ and so often one has to buy a bottle and hope for the best. I've just been through that process and wished there was an easier way! Some US and UK places have a great deal on ink samples but by the time they are mailed to NZ it gets expensive quickly.

Would anyone be interested in mailing around a box of 20-30 ink vials to discover some new inks? I'm happy to donate some stock to start things rolling. The idea would be that you load up 2-3 pens with your choice from the library and then hopefully replace the items with some of your favourite inks. I dont want this just to be a collection of unwanted inks, but more a showcase of interesting inks that you love and would like for someone else to discover too! To this end I'd be happy to put a few Iroshizuku inks in the mix! I know I'm very unlikely to reach the bottom of some of my 50ml bottles anytime soon! The reviews on FPN really helped me choose some great inks, but there is nothing like writing with them and discovering things for yourself.

Please reply in this thread if you are interested :-)

Cheers

Great! I might PM a few of the regular Kiwis around here as they might not hang out in this section very often

Could be a good idea! Possibly we could also get an email list going here in NZ where anyone with suplus inks etc could offer/sell them to others. It would be great if there was more local contact between pen enthusiasts in NZ , (I don't know anyone else at all with a similar interest).

Good luck with the idea.

Regards

Peter Oliver

Unfortunately I'm moving around a lot and don't have access to my inks (or a stable address), but I will see if I can contact a few of my other NZer friends to join in!

Great sounds like we have a few interested people and this may get off the ground. I'll get hold of some vials.

I like the Diamine range too peteraitken, there certainly should be a colour for everyone in there somewhere but it’s almost overwhelming at times. The paradox of choice! Even the 30ml samples will take a while to use up. It would be great to try out a few more.

I haven’t tried any of the J Herbin, R&K and Montblanc inks kelvinkeh but would love to do so :-)

I was hoping for at least 6 people, but what the heck let’s just get this going for fun? If there aren’t that many of us keeping the box up to a month should be fine?

So we have:

HarrietHippo Auckland

Kelvinkeh

Cdub24

Peteraitken

Can you please let me know where abouts in the country you are? The list may need re-juggling to make sure the package isnt yo-yoing between islands but its a start.

I seem to be drawn to the primary colours and have quite a few reds/greens/blues mainly Diamine, Sailor, Lamy and Pilot Iro. Sounds like we may have a good mix of brands which will be interesting. I figure everyone has too much ink yet always want to try more haha  I've ordered some vials and will keep you posted.

I've also shepherded another kiwi into our flock so now we have:

HarrietHippo, Auckland

Kelvinkeh, Auckland

Cdub24, Christchurch / Auckland

Peteraitken

PJO, Taihape

Hey Empty_of_Clouds

I came across your user name on another forum not impressed with the >$50USD shipping charge on getting ahold of some Tomoe River paper. Did you ever manage to get hold of some? Perhaps we can do a group buy of some of these things and/or add the to the box in the future if this keeps going :-)

You did? I remember that.

As it is I am in negotiations - slow though they are - to have 4,000 sheets sent to me. Depending on the logistics of that I may double the order to 8,000 sheets. I believe that the shipping increase will be negligible as it will be part of a much larger corporate purchase. As mentioned, still working through the negotiations. :)

Well, I already know what the paper is like as I've got a couple of hundred sheets here (both cream and white), and I use a Hobonichi Techo as my daily diary and that has the same paper. I'm more interested in the logistics for the larger order. At the moment it's like watching icebergs drifting, sometimes toward sometimes away.
