149 Nib Comparisons - B, Obb, Obbb

I have no idea why the photographs get rotated and trying to on my Mac doesn't seem to change anything when I upload. :wallbash:

If using an iPhone, edit the photo on the iPhone and rotate one way then back again and save. It will then upload correctly. No this does not make sense, but it works.

Thou spoilest us...and we love it!

The Carnegie OB images are a treat. I've never before seen such.

Your handwriting comparison of the different wider nibs is helpful.

Such broader-nibbed pens aren't only for the specialist, but are delightful daily writers.

Their smooth ink flow displays the characteristics of fine inks with verve.

Many, many thanks for the posts in this thread.

Thank you! I've gone absolutely spare trying to figure out why I could never get photos to upload other than side on. :notworthy1:

When reading these posts my focus was on the nibs, rather than on the ink.

Seeing the different types of nibs compared side-by-side was valuable.

You'd noted the ink, but in my focus on the nibs I flat-out ignored the different inks.

Today I re-read this thread, finding myself wondering what ‘R & K’ might be.

After reading about Rohrer & Klingner, my awareness has expanded.

Thank you for identifying these inks, for yours truly and anyone else unfamiliar with them.

Forgive me for not spelling out the name. I forget sometimes that not everyone is as immersed in the available ink brands.

When doing comparisons, I try to stay consistent with inks as they can change nib performance. Paper is another element to consider. I grabbed cheap office paper to show people need not fear large nibs on bad paper.

Thanks for posting the comparisons.

It will get me to ink up my 149 with the OBB as soon as I clean out two others first. I have too many pens inked up right now for my own good.

That is just such a fun nib.

@SD, I was thinking of you when I saw this post.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thank you for getting that nib tamed. I thought I had an extra paper shredder for a while.

By any chance was it ever possible to post an image or two of your red gold OBBB?

When you mentioned it last summer, my curiosity was whetted.

Ghost Plane's bounteous sharing of broader nibs is a joy to revisit.

Wonderful collection! I was most interested in the "Muster" engravings on the cap and barrel of the pens. Recently, I just purchased my first MB 146 on eBay. It's an older model from the late 1970s/early 1980s. Unfortunately the barrel was replaced by the MB service center with a modern one that has a striped ink window. However, it has "Muster M" engraved on the cap. I did a bit of research and found out it was a tester for the German market. There aren't too many around (most for sale seem to be the English versions) so I was impressed that you had one that was both an uncommon size (149) and uncommon nib (OBB). Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately my platinum 149 OBBB will not arrive in time for Christmas, but it should be here for my birthday next month. I relieved my impatience just now by writing a little with a marvelously wet Pelikan 400NN OBB, inked with Akkerman Binnehof Blues. What a voluptuous nib!
