I have Souten plus a bit of Sky High, so I wouldn't feel the need to buy the Usagiya as well.

But thank you for your interesting review. I've never seen Tomoe River grid paper, but I had heard it was available. :)

No, there's really no need to own all three of those! The paper is from a Kokuyo Idea Note notebook. I don't know of a source in the UK; I ordered them from Nanami:

*facepalm*

Why did I buy this and Ushimado.

Thank you for the review. :)

Do you have Ushimado too?

No, I don't really like colors like Ushimado - too green, and I hate teal. I'm surprised you would even order the Souten - it doesn't seem like your kind of color at all!

Yeah, maybe it's not. Trying to like dark blues was a failure, maybe setochi can help me like lighter and greener blues. :)

About Okayama No Souten, Usagiya had 3 bottles per account limit for 2-3 days in June/July. I added Kinojyo No Akaoni and Akaiwa wine, and had no idea what to do with the third slot (setochi was sold out), so I added this. :)

Beautiful ink. Thanks for your review.

I too love all these Sailor cerulean blues & appreciate their subtle differences. Nothing comes close to the brand in my view.

I recently tried Usagiya ege kai #07 (sp?) and it is the colour of shallow seawater - a green/blue - which I also love. So you'd probably not like it ;-) I'm trying to find something I very close to my beloved Maruzen Nihonbashi Kirin, as I don't expect ever to be able to find another bottle of that.

These three inks are indistinguishable. Do their performaces differ? When I tested Sky High and Souten side by side, I couldn't tell the differnce in behavior and chromatography showed them to comprise the same dyes.

I'm sure a number of Sky High fans will quickly inform me of their various differences, however. ;)

Color perception is a tricky thing. To me, they're certainly cousins, but in use, I don't find them indistinguishable at all. There are differences in shading, saturation, sheen, etc. Or maybe I'm just kidding myself to justify having several bottles of what amounts to the same ink ;)

I can't argue with that as I've never seen Okuyama no Souten in person. I'm judging by your photos, which might not tell the whole story. I stand by my statement that Sky High and Souten are the same ink with a different name.

So, Glyf, I like the blues. Thank you for sharing.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

And so do I -- thank you gylyf!

I've put this ink on my stake-out list (along with KN Nipponia nippon -- although KN Nn is definitely not a blue).

;-)

Anyway ... if Okayama no souten is bluer than Jentle Souten/Sky High, then how close is it in color to Edelstein Topaz?

I'll have to dig out my swatches, but off-hand, I'd say it's darker and more saturated than Topaz. I'll post a comparison under better lighting tomorrow.

Thanks gylyf! Yes, and I should have remembered that Topaz is actually greener than Souten/Sky High. Duh. My bad. When I look at my ink tests, it turns out that my next bluer ink after Souten is actually Pilot Blue.
