Diamine Have Brand New Bottles And Packaging

The old caps reminded me of Bakelite. The new packaging is fine, the labels more useful. But I will miss the old caps.

I love it. I love all the changes they made - the label design is beautiful, the swatch of color is helpful, and I'm quite partial to both polka dots and gold.

 

It makes me want to run out and buy a bottle of ink that I definitely don't need. Hmm, but which one? (Probably whichever color I like best with a gold cap...it's going to take me a month to decide which color!)

 

They have some really great colors. Emerald is probably my favorite green ink. Tyrian Purple is a must have, IMO. Classic Red is right smack in the middle of the red spectrum -- it doesn't lean burgundy, or pink, or orange; it's just... red. I have some of the Shimmertastic inks, and the boxed set Flower Collection (although I still haven't tried them all). Denim was a close match to what came out of my first Esterbrook when I went to flush it (although it didn't shade). And I have bottles of a few others, and samples of a bunch more -- I just checked and I have as many Diamine inks (including samples) as Noodler's inks. And that's a lot (although not as many in bottles).

I agree entirely. The new caps just don't seem quite right to me, whereas the old caps do. The feel of the plastic and the little ribs that give extra grip are just perfect.

Diamine now call their shiny inks Shimmering inks. Shimmertastic isn't on the bottles/boxes anymore.

There is no need to worry about the caps. After using them for a few days, I haven't had a problem with them, and I'm old.

 

There are plenty of non-ridged or metal caps out there. Sailor, Pilot Iroshizuku, GvF-C and some J. Herbin spring instantly to mind. I've had more problems with Sailor and P.I. caps than I've had with these Diamine caps.

This is just my thought but ink bottles should be boring .. Functional and practical but I like them to be boring. They're just there to do a job which is to hold the ink and allow me to fill my pens with the least amount of fuss.

 

I'm not keen on the fancy one which command a premium price thanks to all the glass.

Chrissy is just reporting her personal findings here. I quite appreciate that since I am not sure how quickly we will get to see these bottles in person.

At least we can get a first hand account of how it feels in the hand.

Glad to see that they've finally put the colours on the label - although the design looks too busy, makes my eyes tired looking at it. The same design on the box looks great though.

 

My initial thought to the bottle was 'meh' but it's starting to grow on me. Really dislike the cap though as, like others as said, the old caps just looked right. The gold cap just fights with the label for attention.

I don't have many 80ml bottles, because I go for quantity of bottles. So most of mine are 30ml bottles anyway. However, I like to buy bigger bottles of the ones I use more frequently when I find offers on them.

Ahh in that case it would be a choice between Oxford Blue or Classic Green

Yes, it is moderately wet. And has some water-resistance. Have a look at my original review of it.

Actually that could be construed as "good taste;" I ordered this ink from the Writing Desk immediately after reading your review. I like it a lot (I never had the real MD Racing Green to compare these sort of greens to) & find it different enough from Mr. Theil's Racing Ink from Diamine that I am happy to have both colors.

My favorite feature is the color coded section with the ink name! I have several that had the little tag on the top that are unreadable now!

Ding ding ding ding!!! I am really really glad that they started putting ink color on the bottle's label and box instead of just the cap. My bottle of Sherwood has a big piece of masking tape over the label with "Diamine Sherwood" written on it with a sharpie. It's an aesthetic nightmare, but at least it works.

 

Makes it look like they're vintage. I suppose that fits in nicely with their caption "ink makers since 1864"

 

The studs will make the bottle easier to grip.

I don't worry too much about it; I always gripped the bottle by the flats. These days I mostly fill pens from sample vials, so bottle design isn't all that important to me. If it was, I'd regard Waterman and Pelikan 4001 bottles as the apex of the art. The Sheaffer sidewells were kind of shallow for my needs, and as others have pointed out, the caps were prone to rust, so an excellent idea in need of better execution. I've never tried the MB shoe bottles or the Akkerman glass ball straw bottles and can't judge them, and really disliked the Levenger filling insert.

I'm pretty much the same. I only have 1 or 2 bottles, everything else being sample vials. I would consider Lamy bottles to be the apex with their little dint at the bottom of the bottle

I miss the marbled green Bakelite caps. When I managed to get a bottle of (appropriately named) Evergreen with one of these green caps, I was told these Italian-made caps were no longer available.

I have a couple of those. Sadly, I don't currently have an 80ml bottle of Sherwood Green to put one onto. Perhaps I should make sure I get an old bottle quickly.
