Aonibi - Kyonooto

To be honest I don’t know much about the company. Some time ago Algester posted topic about Tag Kyoto branch inks. The bottles and colors presented on their site looked nice so I’ve decided to try some of these inks. I’ve managed to buy two on Rakuten and I’ll review them. The inks are made by or for Takeda Jimuki company and are available in two lines: Kyo No Oto and Kyo-Iro. Kyo no Oto inks are said to be traditional japanese colors that has been used since heian era (roughly 1000 years ago),and expressing a tinges that have been nurtured in long history and profound culture for long time.

Kyonooto inks are:

  1. Aonibi
  2. Imayouiro
  3. Kokeiro
  4. Nurebairo
  5. Yamabukiiro

Kyo-iro inks are:

  1. Cherry Blossom of Keage
  2. Flaming Red of Fushimi
  3. Moonlight of Higashiyama
  4. Soft Snow of Ohara
  5. Stone Road of Gion

Aonibi comes in nice, practical bottle

I must confess I'm a fan of this color. In my opinion it rocks. It's not strongly saturated but it offers vintage vibe that I enjoy a lot. It leans slightly toward Slate Grey. Also the flow in most pens is great. The ink felt dry in my St Dupont Fidelio but , for example, in Kaweco or FPR Guru the flow was excellent. In very wet pens it may cause some bleedthrough on bad quality paper.

I actually like this color A LOT!!!..

It looks quite beautiful and very vintage on cream paper... :puddle: :puddle:

I did not get any bleedtrough (but yes to show through).

I get some bleedthrough on cheapest paper from supermarket, but I guess almost every ink would cause bleedthrough on it in wet nib. As for the color - I have five pens filled with it. It may become one of my all time favourites. When it comes to blue/blacks (ok, it's not really blue black, but I'm not that fond of "pure" blue/blacks) I enjoy Aonibi and Robert Oster's Blue Night.

Awesome review. I have not tried out my bottle yet but I'm glad to have gotten it, after seeing its beauty here!

Oh visvamitra, perfect timing as usual. Just placed an order for the black (thanks to Cyber6 :) ) I may well ask for this too and save on shipping.

Fingers crossed.

Excellent review as always. Thank you!

This one looks like a winner ! A lovely grey-blue with - like Cyber6 said - a vintage 30's look. Real nice. And Sakura SFPG in Diest have them in their shop, 20 minutes from here... Tempting, tempting ;-)

Hmmm... I went to Catherine's place and instead of getting this ink, I returned with all of the Callifolio inks she had in stock :-). Really nice place, but it's like a candy store for inkaholics - impossible to leave without some goodies.

Today I've discovered Aonibi clogged FPR Guru after a week of not using the pen. I have it in four other pens, only one used daily, and there's no such issue in others. Have any of Aonibi users had similar experience with this ink clogging pen or causing skipping? In other pens it behaves perfectly well.

I'm sorry to hear that.

(Plain water would clog my FPR pens :wallbash: . . . I took the nibs out of some and gave away the others )

I've had it in a Sailor pen for two or three weeks I think. It worked very well without any problem.

  • 2 weeks later...

oh, i like this color. reminds me of Iro fuyu-shogun but a touch darker, which is better for an everyday writing.

The only problem I have with this ink is that it spreads a lot...

But the colour and shading is nice!
