Looking For The Right Nib

Hello,

I am looking for a nib, that has a fine vertical downstroke and a medium horizontal stroke. I know italic nibs meet these requirements, if you write cursive. But if you try to do it with straight vertical strokes, you would have to hold the pen very awkwardly to get a fine line.

I am looking for either the general term of the type of nib, that meets this requirements, if there is one, or a specific pen/ nib.

I attached a picture, of how a "T" would look like, written by a nib like this. (Sometimes the inkflow of my nib isn't proper, so this comes about, and I love when this happens)

Thank you very much,

creed

First, welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. You are looking for an "Architect", Arabic or Hebrew nib.

I think what you're looking for is an Architect nib - sometimes called a Hebrew or Arabic nib. Don't know of anyone who supplies these "off the shelf" - they pretty much have to be custom ground to suit the angle at which you hold your pen. Fpnibs.com in Spain charge extremely reasonable prices for this option (from memory it's maybe 8?), in addition to the cost of a nib. If you want someone to adjust a pen you already have, I hear really good things about Dan Smith (nibsmith.com) though there are a fair few nib technicians who'll do this. Their prices tend to be much steeper, though, at US$40-45.

You can push the boat out and buy a Sailor Naginata Togi. There are multiple variants of this nib on the nibs.com site, which are designed to allow Japanese plutocrats to sign their names without the bother of learning brush calligraphy.
