London Writing Equipment Show 2016

This was my first ever visit to a pen show and I was quite overwhelmed by the sheer number of pens on display. It all becomes a blur after a little while !!! I really only went to 'see what it was all about' and didn't actually buy a single pen ! I did however meet the lovely David Round, the man behind William Hannah leather notebooks and was so impressed with the product I bought one there and then.

I had a very nice lunch in a pub across the road called the Marquis Cornwallis

Apart from the annoyance of engineering work on the journey down from Birmingham necessitating a coach link between Warwick Parkway and Banbury ( curse you Chiltern Rail !!! ) I had quite an enjoyable day. :)

Sounds like a good haul :)

What did you get, if you don't mind my asking?

I have looked at the WH notebooks at several shows. Clearly a quality product, but the system is not for me even though I like the cover and paper.

That's the fellah. Sold me a very nice MB 254. Whne I left, I realised I had bought an expensive pen, and I had no idea who I'd actualy bought it from.

He had a huge choice of P51s also, I meant to have a look through and see if there were any obliques.

You can see in the pic that he has some nice Red Duofolds too.

Very nice

I didn't get to try the inks but I do have a pen by John and it is excellent!

Oh man, I saw that he had a really nice collection of PFMs, I wish I could have bought those :(

On the other hand, I found my grail pen for sale in the show. The stall to the left of the William Hannah stand had one for £3000... Needless to say I felt bummed.

Broke

I have never been to a pen show but have been studying this thread with great interest. Im interested in vintage japanese makie pens and curious to know if there is a good selection of those at the show?

Im iving in Denmark and here we dont have any shows so im trying to locate the nearest one. Any suggestions?

best regards

John

There's a regular there, and I think at most large shows, called Sarj (I think?). He has a mahoosive collection of high end pens and I saw a good few makie pens on his stand. Perhaps might be worth getting in touch directly.

Sarj is at most if not all the UK shows and a number of international shows too, I think that the next UK show is in Sheffield

Thank you for helping out with his details.

Sarj Minhas is an excellent seller with a huge array of pens. I have bought many pens from Sarj and they are all of the highest quality.

You may want to consider the Madrid pen show in a few weeks time - Sarj will almost certainly be there. If last year was anything to go by there will be 2 or 3 other sellers with good quality (and commensurately priced) makie pens.

Hi, John. Yes, there was a selection of Make-i Japanses pens spread among many stalls. It might be helpful to have an idea about what specifically you are looking for as it might help narrow the field. There's a lot to see between different stalls, so if you know what nib, brand, or design you want it will help you navigate. You can also ask the vendors do you have X,Y or Z.

Most of the ones I remember seeing looked older, and the condition varied.

Does anyone know if there will be a Conid presence at the Sheffield show?
