Misalignment Of Nibs

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Recently I got an old Waterman's Ideal wet noodle as a part of larger collection, but the issue is that the tines are not properly aligned, so it works okay on the down stroke, but is scratchy on the upstrokes and sidestrokes, can anyone help me on how to set this right, I have a little experience in regrinding nibs, but don't have any idea about alignment, also I am too afraid to damage the nib, as it is old, and these wet noodles are very difficult to find in India.

Take a look at these notes from Richard Binder's nib smoothing workshop. You'll probably need a loupe, or some other magnification to view the nib. Good luck.

How about buying a good 10-12X loupe to look at your tines.

Press the up tine down from the breather hole to under the down tine, for 2-3 seconds three or four times checking after each time.

That is SOP, standard operating procedure....in we all get a pen that is misaligned or we bang it a bit our selves.

Grinding a misaligned nib is foolish, in you will ruin it....and it will still be misaligned.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.
