Pilot Vp Clip/cap Loose

I have a 1 year old Pilot VP pen which has a loose cap that the pocket clip is mounted on. I contacted Pilot and received return instructions for repair.

The cap friction fits, but appears to have some type of cement residue. What type of glue is used to hold these parts together? I don't think super glue would be the best choice. Maybe a contact cement?

I prefer not to send it back if possible.

I know you hate to send it back, but this needs the proper glue, and there may be some surface prep involved. The old glue needs to be removed first. I would bite the bullet and send it back. Easy for me to say, I have two of them.

 

My first VP was bought in 1999 and is still as tight as it was then. I've used it daily for nearly 15 years at work and still use it today. The mechanism is as smooth as when it was new, never gave me any problems at all. Seventeen years of high use. I love them. Just ordered a Decimo today.

"The cap friction fits"... doesn't match up with the VP design. There is no cap. The original name for "Vanishing Point" was "Capless". There's the section part of the body where the clip mounts. It screws onto the body. It shouldn't be loose. Do you have photos you can share?

This question has come up before. Richard Binder, who used to sell modified clipless caplesses, answered with the glue that he used. I don't remember the thread, but he is a member of FPN. You might want to PM him...

The best glue to use to re-secure the nose cone is G-S Hypo Cement. It's a jeweler's adhesive that works exceptionally well. Richard Binder recommended it to me and it was perfect for the job. Also, you do not have to remove the existing glue to use this product.

My VP does not have threads on this part. It friction fits / glues on. I described the part as best I knew how. It is the part the pocket clip is attached to.

I see what you're saying now -- so the metal end-piece where the nib extends/retracts (with clip attached); Yes, that is glued into place. I have to say I've not seen many complaints of this coming loose. Must be an obscure quality control issue that affects a very small number of pens. In any case, the glue Ashram recommended should do the job -- good luck!
