Great Review!

I've just recieved this pen in a broad nib. #3! It is quite wet. My review would be boring. Everything is as expected. It is glorious and blows through ink (in a great way). My first fill was Diamine 1864 Blue Black. So good! Now I need the florentine.....

If I can find someone to take good pictures I'll add some of the broad nib! Thanks again for a great review.

Thank you all so much!
I'm so glad you like the review! I really enjoy this pen! It's been in my EDC ever since I got it. So glad I went for this one

This is my first demonstrator so I've been cautious about what inks I use in the pen (so far just Waterman Serenity Blue) but that picture is stunning. I may have to step outside my comfort zone a little.

Got mine yesterday, great looking pen. Swapped the nib with a spare one that I had reground to a 0.6mm italic. Wanted to ink it with De Atramentis blue/grey document ink but I'm a bit concerned that the permanent ink might stain the clear acrylic. So I use De Atramentis Frankincense mixed with a few drops of Waterman South Sea Blue. It resulted in a nice blue-grey that perfectly suits the color of the pen.

Ubi bene ibi patria.

Thanks for the great photos and write up! I'm a lurker, but had to hop in for a few questions.

Did Visconti work out the "ink seeping" issue that the previous SE's had? I recall hearing that both the Florentine Hills and Crystal editions had ink that would find its way bin between the walls of the reservoir. Hopefully that was addressed in the Lomdon Fog.

Also, does the MyPen system work on this?

Thought I read somewhere that it did not - which would seem odd.

Thanks!

I have not had ink seepage problems, but I do recall the problems from the other SEs. And the MY-Pen system most definitely works. I feel like quality control has seen a huge improvement over the last few months. My more recent purchases have all been perfect. I have heard from others that have said the same thing... things are looking up. That being said, even when problems have come up, I have had excellent success with customer service.

Congratulations, and thanks for the review! I will be getting my first Visconti, a HS Bronze Age with a stub nib, as soon as Italy gets back from the beach and can ship it to Bittner's.

Wow what a stunning pen and a great review!

LOVED seeing the comparison with all the other pens too, especially the M800.

I have all of the lava versions and the Florentine Hills - my favorite pens hands down.

London Fog is my next purchase. Thanks for inspiring me to get it sooner than later.

Enjoy your gorgeous pen :)

Thank you for an excellent review.

I'm very glad that Visconti seems - from all reports - to have sorted out their quality control issues.

Curiously, I really liked the online photos of the Florentine Hills edition, but when I had a chance to see it in a B&M store recently, it didn't speak to me at all. So, I'm looking forward to being able to see a London Fog HS in person soon.

Great review, amazing pictures BTW! I'm also loving the 'acryloid' material on my Visconti Kakadu LE #100/100. To make the swirls they basically mixed the two materials together but you get the best of both worlds in that, I believe the inner part of the barrel is actually acrylic while the outer layer is partly celluloid. In order to make it seem as one piece, the barrels are polished extensively. This is the same way we got the LE versions of the Opera Master's such as the Crimson Tides Collection.

What you end up with is a pen with a LOT of depth, and one that is quite nice feeling in the hand that is warm to the touch but doesn't have that characteristic "cheapness" (for a lack of a better term) of just plain acrylic. I can definitely feel the difference compared to my workhorse pen, the Pilot Custom 823 which feels 'less solid' in the hand than the Kakadu, and do keep in mind the Pilot 823 is my go to pen for any occasion and that will never change. It is simply a pleasure to write with, they both are.

Currently Inked = Pilot Custom 823 - 14Kt Gold 'M' Nib -- Visconti Kakadu LE #100/100 - 18Kt Gold 'M' Nib -- Visconti Homo Sapiens London Fog LE #785/888 - 23Kt Pd "1.3mm Stub" Nib -- Pelikan 100N Transitional - 14Kt Gold 'OF' Nib -- Pelikan 400 - 14Kt Gold 'KF' Nib (All Inked with Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black) -- Pelikan M200 West Germany - SS 'OBB' Nib
