Lamy Lx? What Is This?

I saw those pens in Italy ... I can't believe how flashy the cap top and clip are! It's the exact opposite of what Safari originally stood for ... rugged, functional, a bit drab.

I immediately thought of LE sneakers ... a functional shoe transformed into a status item. Weird world.

I quite like the bling of the gold one. I am not a fan of the $70 US price. I would pay Al-Star pricing for it, but not retail MSRP. Either way it looks wonderful IMHO.

I don't recall Lamy ever stating that that was the Safari's marketed niche.

I propose that the bright pink SE's would have killed that illusion.

I found a great deal on the Gold LX for the price of a standard AlStar with free shipping. Arrived today. It looks wonderful. Going to throw in a Dark Lilac cartridge into it tomorrow for a spin around town.

Hi all,

My wife is gifting me a Lx, just a few question from a newbie.

Does the nib require any running-in?

These Lx are having the PVD coated black nibs. Does the sizes matches the steel nibs? Reason being, I am looking for the same width with a al-star steel nib in medium. Should I get the Fine or Medium?

Thanks in advance.

I've never needed to 'run-in' a cheap steel Lamy nib, and as far as I know the black PVD coated black nibs are the same sizes as the ordinary steel nibs. If you like the M steel, and you want it the same, then get a M black. If you want a change then a F black is nice too. :)

According to owners they write in a bit narrower line than the standard nibs. Mine does too. Maybe an effect of the coating. Yet there is always a quite variance with Lamy nibs.

Thanks for the advice. I've decided to go for the Fine black nib. Since I've already have a medium nib on the existing al-star. The Lx should be available tomorrow :D
