Lamy Lx? What Is This?

I'm seeing a lot of my (style-conscious) students sporting gold toys (gold notebooks, pen cases etc.)

How odd, this sudden turn to "live deluxe."

i guess it's a primitive form of aesthetics... glitter... gold. platinum, diamonds... all glitter.... not many want them because of their value: non corrosiveness, hardness

with kindness...

yes, I could. If they add colours or change material, fine... satisfy more customers and get more buyers, but giving it a new name, no.

And since when was the "name" not just marketing as well?

It certainly is. However, a mere colour change? PretendIng variety where there is (hardly) one. A better example in that regard is the car industry...not much else good to say.

Then what about the "LE" 2000? when all they did was issue a new "color" of stainless steel? A mere color change justifies a 2 to 3x price?

A mere colour change can incite people to pay extra, as well as the fact that it is an "LE" or "SE".

Some colours of the Safari fetch high prices. Yet basically they are just normal Safaris. Call it LE and people pay premium.

Lamy will sell their L2000 Black Amber LE. Not to people like you, but to the collectors who go for these things. (And I am not saying you should buy a L2000 50yrs LE. I won't. Way too expensive for a pen I don't like anyway. I would prefer the Emporium, myself.)

Other brands do the same. Pilot has a Capless LE each year in a special colour at a premium price. Pelikan issues special colours each year at premium prices. The same goes for many other brands. There is a market for these colours/LEs, and if there is a market, companies will offer.

of course it does not... but if customers pay for it? If we are conscious, that's when we have the power. If most of us say no and not succumb to childish desire, then manufacturers will have to be more honest with their pricing. It is this simple. They do a perceived value analysis, and the outcome of this determines the price... not production cost.

I like the look of these pens but I don't understand why they are so much more expensive than the al-star (30 euros more expensive!).

The nib (at least in Sweden) are not gold, but PVC coated. It's amazingly smooth.. I have the one in gold, and a pen case is also included.

I bought a gold one (with the Bold nib)to use with Diamine's Golden Sands ink.

That's given me an idea for a pen for the new Diamine Golden Honey too. :)
