I am puzzled by this design and in fact the design direction of Montblanc, of late.

I always thought that the Writer's Edition pens are probably wonderful pens to ink and use. Lately pens in the WE series have become rather ornate, occasionally gaudy and seem to really target collectors who rarely ink and use them.

Maybe I'm wrong but this is my opinion.

Montblanc wants their target audience to be people who can afford to buy and never use.

Us average working schmoes get a few chances to have some $$$ burning a hole in your pocket to think of purchasing one during our life.

Some on here buy every LE, salute to that!

Just purchased limited edition Shakespeare Montblanc in London. Well balanced, solid pen. Writes well. Beautiful, IMHO.

Thank you very much for the photos, and I hope you enjoy it. :)

Is anybody aware of how the limitation numbers on these limited editions can effect the value of these pens in a few years time?

For example, would edition 10/1597 typically be worth any more than 1395/1597 on the second hand market?

Maybe #1 and the last in the edition might get a bump. Otherwise none that I have seen. People try though. :)

8,88,888,8888 in some markets. Also if it's the wrong signature and there is a recall.

One thing to consider is that the lower numbers are assigned to the sets. Therefore if you were to buy just the fountain pen you wouldn't get a very very low number.

If I'm given the option though I will always choose the lowest number available for no other reason that you have to pick one and I like to be consistent.

I don't earn a fortune but I am lucky to have no debt (other than mortgage). I'm also very careful with my money and don't waste it on impulse purchased. I also don't smoke and rarely drink. I'm therefore able to put £65 a month in a dedicated MB bank account which satisfies my annual purchase. If I didn't put the £65 a side each month I think I'd find it a lot harder to justify or even source the purchase.

I do confess though that I am at the mercy of MB. By having the full set you are forced to continue buying no matter what the pen or its price. If I stop buying I might as well start selling as it would be pointless to have so many of a set but not have the complete set.

I heard that in Oriental market some numbers like 88, 888 get higher prices.

I would say it is possible. But I have also heard that certain high end collectors who buy lots of pens from MB have certain numbers reserved for them already so they are not available for purchase in the general pen release. Many of these collectors are in China where 8 is a lucky number.

At least no sane Asian wants #1413 or #14 or #44 etc..., this is a basic fact.

The official launch was last night. Apparently the official global release (outside of the U.K.) is not for anther month. It was a great evening with lots of nice canapies and champagne followed my A Midsummer Night Dream showing at the Globe.

There are also cuff links to match both versions of the pen. Last night was the first time I'd seem these. They were coloured to match the pens and understated in design which was good.

When I got back to Brum today I went to my local boutique to thank them for last night. I've been told that the Shakespeare notepad is being recalls as a mistake has been found on it. The store said they didn't know what the mistake was, and I've checked mine and there are no obvious errors that can be seen. I have the choice of getting the new pad when it is available but I think I will keep my erroneous one as it will make it even more rare.

Brandon, can you tell us more about the note pad please? Maybe some pics?

If anyone could share the UK / London boutique price of the white basic version (PM me), I would highly appreciate it. Thanks.

Meh, As someone who had pretty much collected all of the series, (missing Hemingway and Wilde). This pen is really underwhelming for me. I will take a look at it at the upcoming DC Super Pen show or at our local Montblanc boutique. Maybe seeing it in person will change my mind. Maybe this will be the first one that I won't want to buy, Maybe on the secondary market in a couple of years if I catch one at a good price. The nib even looks ugly. It really looks like a cheap Chinese pen.

I think it looks stunning and can't wait until I can justify my next MB purchase. The Leo Tolstoy still is the one for me, but this one comes very close!
