Pilot/namiki Sterling Silver Issues

I bought a very nice Pilot Namiki Sterling but inking it today no vacuum for the converter. Removing converter as per instructions a small black piece of plastic joined the converter. Can't see a way this fits in or even if I'm being totally stupid by asking but given I love the pen, do I need to send it for repair or s it beyond that? Any info most welcome. Thanks.

Ouch, that looks like the cartridge piercer. It's supposed to be screwed in, looks like yours has split off or something. Is there reminants of a thread around it?

I have often wondered how interchangable these are between Pilots for spares, yours looks basically the same as my 40 year old Elite's. I was thinking of buying one of Speerbob's $15 Korean Elites if my cart piercer ever broke, to see if they make for a compatible donor.

Send it back to Pilot for repairs -- that part shouldn't have come out.

Hi,

I thought that was what it was - sadly nothing around the site just what looks like a smooth break or similar. I don't want to attempt to glue or affix in any way because I don't think it's in my skill set. It's a great pen and has only been used once. I see nibs.com have some for sale but again the cost of import duties will be high I guess. Thanks for the info - I appreciate it.

Good idea - they have an office in the UK I expect. Should say I bought from an excellent seller in the USA but not sure if that will mean Pilot UK would say 'not our problem'? Thanks. R Edited by DrRoger

The cartridge piercer has simply unscrewed from inside the section. This can happen if one twists the converter CCW while removing it from the pen. For future ref, while removing the converter, it is better to twist it CW while pulling it out.

The fix is easy. Insert the piercer into the mouth of the converter. Now simply thread it into the section and once it is tight, twist the converter CW while pulling on it. The converter will come away leaving the piercer in the place it should be.

Send it back to pilot uk, that is what they are fore

I bought a silvern in japan from itoya and it was awful to use, skipping ink, hard to start etc. Put it in the draw and thought "sod" this.

After a while i thought not a cheap pen why not be cheeky.

i eventually sent it to pilot uk asking how much it would cost to repair. Lo and behold they looked at it, sent it to japan and returned it to me working, and at no cost. I was a very happy bunny and i now enjoy using the pen.

Hi, Pilot aren't interested (or so it seems) and the person I bought the pen from might well be away since I've heard nothing back from two emails. The threading idea did not work, though perhaps I'm doing it wrong. Just very sad that a gorgeous pen is now out of use. Maybe I should just sell for parts.

It's only been a day, give the seller some more time to respond. In the meantime, could you take a side-on photo of the piercer?

You're right - in fact the seller has proved again what a fine person they are by emailing and resolving things. I guess I do run too fast re email - mea culpa. I'll sort out a side shot of the piece but I'm happy that things are moving forward. R

That's great news.

Very much so - again I'd like to say the seller is A1 and more (we're lucky to have such great folks in this hobby - so unlike the cliques and in-out crowds in my day job.)
