Cleaned My Jaipur Piston Filler - Now It Won't Draw Up Ink

I wanted to change inks and so followed the directions for disassembling and cleaning the piston, and everything seemed alright. I cleaned, then reassembled my pen, reapplied some silicone grease around the piston, and tried to fill the pen... and it will draw only a few drops of ink!

What am I doing wrong? What can I do to get a full fill of ink? Normally I'd estimate a full fill at better than 2ml of ink...

There is an instruction video about this that shows it's a simple operation, and since there was ink behind the piston head, it seemed necessary... and it seemed like not such a big deal.

  • 4 years later...

Um, it's been a while... but IIRC, I reached out to Fountain pen revolution, and they replaced the pen. So not really a solution... but they did say it was a known problem.

Now that I think about it a little longer... they may have sent me a replacement part and instructions on how to replace it.

Because there's no extra Jaipur in my collection, and I would have kept the defective one in order to tinker.

2016 was kind of an eventful year for me, some things will always remain vague.

Problem's obviously already long-solved, but...

First thing I'd check was to make sure the nib and feed didn't fall out and into the garbage disposal....

Ask me how I know.

Second - were I not an idiot (digging out a 3776 nib from my garbage disposal was just such a delight) - would be to make sure the nib and feed (not sure if the jaipur uses a threaded nib unit) are securely "in" there.

After that, I'd check for cracks.

If the piston goes up and down and you can see the grease smearing around the sides of the barrel, the problem is unlikely to be the piston side.

In my case, the piston actually turned out to be defective - it was a recognized problem.

But as you said, problem long-solved, I do not remember very much about it even!
