Pelikano "a" Nib

Recommended Posts

Pelikano packages have a little picture of a pen nib with a letter, usually M; some have the letter A but the seller description says "medium steel nib". Does the A refer to right- or left- handed?

Hi,

The 'A' designation refers to an Anfänger (beginners) nib, which has quite neutral ball / rounded tipping.

(The way things have been going, I am considering an A nib.)

Perhaps another Member can contribute written samples from the nibs you mention.

Bye,

S1

Ah, I see, that makes sense. Thanks.

As Minty has already said the A nib is intended for children just starting to write with their fist fountain pen. The nibs are ground to be more forgiving than a standard nib, that is, they will write at more extreme angles than an equivalent medium nib.

Most adults will not be able to tell the difference in performance between a "standard medium" and an A nib and the line widths of the nibs are pretty much indistinguishable - comparing Pelikan M/A , Lamy M/A, Schneider M/A.

Hope that's some help, James

Thanks for the info, James. I went ahead and ordered a purple Pelikano Junior (for Dark Lilac).

  • 4 weeks later...

I heard that A nibs are a bit harder, So they won't bend if children are using too much pressure.
