Krone Architectus Silver Overlays

QM2

Recommended Posts

Either way ... I shall post my review when the pen arrives. :)

Worse comes to worse, both Krone and FPH are willing to take it back if I don't like it. But that's it, really -- no more pens for a _while_!

Great, you pulled the trigger! I'm looking forward to your impressions.

I really thought I was satiated for the moment, then out of nowhere, last night I get a hankering for the Bexley 2007 Owner's Club LE, the Mahogany with silver trim. I mean, where in the heck did that urge come from?? And then this pen.

I just have to wonder that with such a price cut, the pens must not have been moving so they discounted them heavily. Even with a great deal like that, whatever caused the lack of appeal may be hard to ignore over time and you'll end up wanting to sell the pen. They do not look comfortable to hold, that's for sure.

I received my Provencial blue Krone Architectus Collection from Fountain Pen Hospital today. It is about 5 and 5/8" long (capped) and very hefty. The sterling overlay is attractive and the fine nib lays down a fine to extra fine line (filled with Waterman Florida Blue). For the price I couldn't resist. I have also had excellent customer service from the Fountain pen Hospital in the past (no affiliation, just a satisfied customer) so I wasn't hesitant to try this pen. Its heft would prevent me from writing a novel, but for my day to day use it will make a great looking pen to carry.

This thread actually caused me to order the Swords (plum) one over the weekend  This is the the 10th pen I bought this last 1 month alone!  . Any Pen Addicts Anonymous anywhere? I believe I need help :bonk:

I quite like pens with silver overlay, but the ones I've seen so far were priced way off what I'm willing to spend. Until the FPH Super Special on the Architectus, that is

I have relatively small hands and I hold my pens close to the nib, so I don't think the overlay should bother me much although I believe the pen would be unbalanced if posted.

Checked out FPH's website just now and now only the Gothic FP & RB, Westminster FP & RB, and the Provencial FP were the only ones left. See the power of how super-heavy discounts can do to dramatically improve sales! :roflmho:

I’m glad you both like your Krone’s… I'm still waiting on mine. I was hesitant at first… Of course that did not stop me buying! But never the less. I’m just a sucker for a “good deal” :headsmack:

When you find out about pens anonymous … let me know!!! I need definitely it! :bonk:

Cheers!

Aargh! Now everyone is buying! Any comments on the grip, you guys? Because if it's not a problem for you, then I'm buying as well! (The burgundy one will look fantastic with my Visctoni burgundy ink.)

QM2, this is all your fault! :roller1: :ltcapd: :P

I like my Krone Architectus Westminster. :) I wouldn't want it to be my only pen, though. I can write with it for a couple of pages, but I don't think I can use it for extended periods. Because of the way I hold my pens, my middle finger ends up pressing down where the "step" beneath the threads is. It's not uncomfortable for me, but it's definitely something I'm aware of while writing. (I've tried a friend's Namiki Bamboo, which also has that "step," although in the Bamboo's case, for some reason, I'm not as aware of it.) The nib is a smooth and firm writer. I use the pen more often now that I've stubbed it and refined my original rough handling with Micromesh. ;)

It's a wonderful brag pen, especially if your inner Goth wants to come out and play!

I just ordered mine - thanks for pointing out the great special sale.

I can't wait to get it (which may take weeks since I am overseas) - I will report as soon as I get it - I have thefeeling that hte seciotn will not be a problem for me but one never knows. I had a problem with Marlen Journal sections but that is because at the low end of the section they had the threads. And this one has a long section and no threads at the end - should be fine - can't wait.

Well, I've finally received and tested my Krone Architectus!

I am glad I went with my instinct and bought the pen. It is lovely, and the section is not a problem for me at all, given how I hold the pen. I took speed-notes during lecture with it for over a half hour, and all was well.

See the review here:

-- though I believe they are nearly sold out at this point.

Well, I tried to dissuade my fellow pen purchasing addicts, but it looks like my attempt has failed. The pen has been bought, tried, and saluted! ;)

Hopefully the good price will mean at least a slight return on investment for those of you who decide to sell yours. Enjoy it! :)

Darn you people! I ended up buying one [the Celtic Green] because I found this thread while searching the internet to see if the FPH price was as phenomenol as I thought it was. Bad enough I have a pen addiction to begin with. Now I find I'm not alone.

I can add Krone to my list of addictions. The broad nib positively floats. I have small hands, but this nicely weighty pen balances comfortably, especially posted.

I received my red Gothic Architectus today. I wanted the Celtic, but I waited too long to pull the trigger and they were sold out when I tried to order Monday, 5-7. I thought about it some more and finally ordered the Gothic on Wednesday. Great service to get in Ohio in 2 days. I got the fine point, which is the size I generally prefer, and filled it with PR American Blue. Writes great, nice, slightly wet line. I think it will be OK comfort wise, as the section doesn't bother me. Now I just have to explain the purchase to my wife.

Write her love letters with it and tell her it inspired you. :eureka:

I've bought a couple of things from FPH and been very happy with them. Prompt shipping, well packed and good about answering questions.

saw it at Fred Krinke's once.

a lady bought it for her BF right away after dipping.

impressions:

big, impressive, breath-taking, ornate, nice purple pen with an out of balance (visual ratio of nib to barrel/section) nib.

They shrunk the section and the nib looked a tad too tiny. Imagine Arnold Swasnegger on dainty high heels (women's size 5) flexing his muscles.

Nice silver overlay.

A definite looker but not my cup of tea.

Yep the nib seems to be for a smaller pen. But it couldn't be bigger to fit within the cap

From that it could only mean a not-thoroughly thought through design IMHO :happyberet:

I have a Hydra by Krone and it's got a silver overlay and is a little bigger but the nib is about twice the size of the Architectus. I had hoped for an equivalent size.

Oh well.

Got my Architectus pens! Very cool! But a little unimpressed with the Gothic one. Looked better in the picture. The Overlay does not wrap consistently around the barrel. It just kind of globs together... Kind of tacky looking...

The other two I got are quite nice though... Celtic and Provencial.

Yes... I have no self-control... I see a "good deal" on fountain pens, especially overlays... And I might as well throw in the towel. FPH is so cruel!
